Sri Lanka Legends are favorites to win
Sri Lanka Legends will take on West Indies Legends in Semi-Final 2 of the 2022 Road Safety World Series at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium. The game begins at 19:30 local time on Friday.
The table-topping Sri Lanka Legends’ side are one of only two teams to have completed the group stage without suffering a defeat. Their game against New Zealand Legends was abandoned without a ball bowled but before that fixture they beat Australia, England and South Africa Legends.
Sri Lanka Legends posted 213-5 in Match 19, their final match of the group stage. Tillakaratne Dilshan added a half-century and the Player of the Match Award in this game to the century he scored against Australia Legends earlier in the tournament.
There were wickets for Tillakaratne Dilshan (3-26), Asela Gunaratne (2-24), Sanath Jayasuriya (1-13) and Dhammika Prasad (1-26) in Tuesday’s day-night fixture against Bangladesh Legends. Nuwan Kulasekara was rested for the match but has already taken eight wickets in the competition.
Sri Lanka Legends are unbeaten in this campaign and have not lost since the 2021 Road Safety World Series Final to India.
Finishing in fourth place and matching their position from the 2021 campaign, West Indies Legends took the final qualifying place for the semi-finals. They have won two, lost once (against India in Match 1) and had two no-results so far in this competition.
Only Shane Watson has scored more runs than Dwayne Smith at the top of the West Indies Legends’ batting order. He has made three half-centuries from three innings in the tournament and hit 65 runs from 33 balls in the defeat to Australia on Sunday.
Krishmar Santokie and Sulieman Benn have been the most successful West Indies Legends bowlers but both went wicketless from their two overs against Australia. Santokie has taken five wickets including 3-7 against Bangladesh Legends and 2-38 against England Legends.
West Indies Legends suffered their first defeat of the tournament when they lost to Australia Legends by eight wickets in Match 17. Before that they were unbeaten.
The match will be played at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium, Raipur. Spinners have found plenty of turn on this surface with pace bowlers able to take advantage of good carry and bounce.
