Our Pick England are favorites to win
After a demoralizing defeat to the visitors in the first match, Sri Lanka will look get their dues even when they host England for the final match of the series. The game will be played on the Galle International Stadium and is set to get underway at 10:00 Am local time.
England continued their dominance over Sri Lanka and thrashed them by 7 wickets in the first Test. As expected their skipper Joe Root was the star of the match as he stroked a top class 228. Jonny Bairstow, Daniel Lawrence also batted pretty well.
Earlier, we had few issues with this batting line up but the kind of form Joe Root is in, we’ll have to hand them some advantage. If Sri Lanka can somehow knock over Root early, then they’ll have real chance of getting the visitors under the hump.
In the bowling department, Dom Bess was terrific with the ball, picking up 8 wickets in the match. Jack Leach too picked up a 5-fer in the second innings. The pacers, Stuart Broad, Mark Wood and Sam Curran also bowled well.
For Sri Lanka, after a collapse in the first inning, they fared pretty well in their next outing with Lahiru Thrimanne batting well for his 111 and Kusal Perera, Angelo Matthews getting themselves to impressive 50’s.
Still, we see Sri Lanka as a very good batting team and if all of them can play to their potential, they’ll be a hard nut to crack.
Sri Lanka heavily depends on their spinners but all them were ineffective in the first Test. Sri Lanka will expect a lot more from them in the next match.
Overall, we think Sri Lanka have a better batting on paper but they’ve not been very consistent. England on the other hand a quality bowling line up that will create a lot of trouble for the Sri Lankan batsmen.

It’s a decent wicket to bat. There will be some movement on offer with the new ball but the spinners will be the real threat on this wicket.

Even though Sri Lanka looks to have a decent team on paper, we have serious concerns about them performing consistently. Their batting has been a big let down in the last few matches. England have quality pacers and spinners in their team and are expected to create a lot of trouble for the Sri Lanka batsmen.
Wicket-keeper
Kusal Perera at 9.0 and Jos Buttler at 9.0 are two good options. Perera played well for 62 in the second innings while Butler is one of England’s most experienced batsmen.
Batsmen
Joe Root at 10.0, Angelo Matthews at 9.0 and Lahiru Thirimanne at 8.5 will make up for a strong batting. Root scored a double hundred in the last ton while Thirimanne too scored a brilliant 111 in the second innings. Matthews also looked good for his 71. Root is the best English batsmen and he’s a good record in Sri Lanka. Karunaratne batted well in South Africa and will be Sri Lanka’s main man with the bat. Matthews is also a top quality batsmen
All-rounders
Wanindu Hararanga and Sam Curran at 9.0 will be our all rounders. Haranga will be very handy on his wocket with his spin while Curran is also a quality all rounder. If Curran doesn’t play then you can select Chris Woakes
Bowlers
James Anderson at 9.0, Jack Leach at 8.5 and Lasith Embuldaniya at 8.0 will complete our team. Spinner will play a big role here so we’ve picked Embuldaniya and Leach as two main spinners while Anderson can be very handy with the new ball.
Captain/Vice-captain
Joe Root is our preferred captain while Lahiru Thirmanne can be backed as his deputy
Batsmen:Joe Root(c), Lahiru Thirimanne(vc), Angelo Matthews
All Rounder:Sam Curran, Wanindu Hasaranga
Wicket Keeper:Jos Buttler, Kusal Perera
Bowler:Dilruwan Perera, Jack Leach, Lasith Embuldaniya, Dom Bess
