Will the Hosts Bounce Back from Defeat in the Last Match?
Australia were expected to put up a better show upon the commencement of the ODI series. And that's exactly what happened on Sunday when they beat Sri Lanka in the first match by three wickets. After putting the hosts into bat first, they restricted them to a meagre 227 and then their batsmen took them over the line with 19 balls to spare. Sri Lanka will now look to bounce back in the second ODI which will be played on August 24 again at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. The match will begin at 2:30 PM local time.

Venue and Toss
The wicket had spin written all over it in Sunday's game. It was slow, low and runs were not easy to score. R.Premadasa has witnessed a first-innings total less than 250 in 50 overs after a very long time. The pitch isn't likely to change much for the next game, and anything above 250 here seems a challenging total.
The last four matches at this venue have all been won the side batting second. Also, since there could be dew later on in the evening, the toss-winning team may prefer chasing.

Only Mendis and Chandimal got going from the top-order and the hosts will also want the experienced Dilshan and Mathews to produce good scores on Wednesday. Chandimal looked the most comfortable of all the batsmen on this pitch. He top-scored with an unbeaten 80 and could top-score again in the upcoming match. Dilshan has got the most runs at this ground from the current Sri Lankan side, and 250 should be possible if he too makes a big contribution.
Sri Lanka will be wary of Mitchell Starc and James Faulkner at the start of their innings. The two fast bowlers shared seven wickets between them to break the spine of Lanka's batting. Faulkner, the man of the match for his outstanding four-for and economy rate of under 4, should be backed for the best bowling figures. Australia will be counting on these two and Zampa for keeping the Sri Lankan total below 250.

Aaron Finch and skipper Steven Smith were their best batsmen in the last match, hitting fifties to win the game for their team. Smith has been consistent in limited-overs cricket and he is more likely to score the most runs for Australia. Bailey has been the most successful when it comes to batting in sub-continent conditions, and he will be the key in Australia's middle-order. If they get a solid opening partnership, then Smith and Bailey should take the score to around 260.
The Aussies will be facing Angelo Mathews and Thisara Perera first up who bowled reasonably well in the last match. Having taken 16 and 18 wickets each at this ground, the two pacers are going to be Sri Lanka's best chance of picking up the early wickets. Dilruwan Perera notched up three big wickets and the off-spinner can trouble the Australians again on this rank-turner. Australia could lose their way if they are not careful against these three Lankan bowlers.

However, one fact that should keep the hosts excited is that they have 9 wins in their last 13 matches at this venue, while the visitors have won only 7 of their 16 matches here.
Sri Lanka bowled alright in the last match and they will be in with a great chance if their batsmen back them up with a better performance. But Australia are doing good in ODIs and so we're predicting them to win the second ODI as well.
