South Africa vs Pakistan 2nd ODI Prediction & Betting Tips
South Africa and Pakistan meet for the second time in three days for the second ODI after a pulsating end to their clash in Centurion where the visitors won with a single from the final ball of the game. Faheem Ashraf hit the winning run to complete an excellent all-round performance after he had previously taken 1-25 from his nine overs of right-arm medium. Read as we preview this ODI between South Africa and Pakistan. The match will be played at the New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg and will get underway at 10:00 local time.
There were centuries on both sides in Friday’s game with Rassie van der Dussen hitting an unbeaten 123 from 134 balls for South Africa before skipper Babar Azam hit a 104-ball 103 for Pakistan. David Miller (50) for the home side and Imam ul-Haq (70) for the visitors also made half-centuries.
With the ball, Faheem Ashraf was the standout performer on both sides, his economy rate of 2.78 compared to every other bowler going at a minimum of 5 runs an over. South Africa’s bowlers returned remarkably similar runs conceded with their five bowlers all sending down 10 overs and going for a minimum of 50 runs. Anrich Nortje picked up four wickets - Imam ul-Haq, Babar Azam, Danish Aziz and Asif Ali.
Danish Aziz didn’t have the best of debuts for Pakistan. He only bowled 3 wicketless overs and contributed 3 runs from 6 balls with the bat.
Although Pakistan got over the line in Centurion, South Africa will take a lot of heart from the fact that they took it to the last ball. Only 17 runs were scored from the final 3 overs which included 5 dot balls across the final 2 overs. If they can find some significant runs from any of their top three, and one of their five bowlers plays the anchor role like Faheem Ashraf did for Pakistan, then they will be confident of victory.
Pakistan can seal the series with victory in this ODI, however, they will also be looking for a more complete team performance. Both Shaheen Afridi (6.10) and Haris Rauf (7.20) were too expensive with the ball, although they did both pick up two South African wickets.

SA vs PAK Toss Prediction
Pakistan successfully chased in Centurion after winning the toss. We expect whichever captain who calls correctly will opt to field first.
Pitch Report
The New Wanderers Stadium pitch may not be quite as hard and pacy as some of its predecessors, but still expect it to offer something to the bowlers of express speed.
Weather Report
Partly cloudy with plenty of sun mixed in. The temperature will peak at 24 degrees in the mid-late afternoon.

South Africa Team News & Playing 11
SA Team News
The Proteas have a 22-man squad to pick from in this series, however we expect Temba Bavuma to lead the same XI in the second ODI. Captain Bavuma will be looking to contribute more after making a solitary run from four balls in his first game in charge.
SA Key Players
- Quinton de Kock- the former captain now only has two main roles to take care of, keeping wicket for fifty overs in the field and getting the team off to a flyer at the top of the order. He has 15 centuries in this format but only 2 going back as far as 18 October 2017. A three figure score from de Kock would be extremely hard for Pakistan to compete with.
- Rassie van der Dussen- for a man who had to wait an eternity to catch the eye of the South Africa selectors, he is certainly making up for lost time in this format. After previously being dismissed for 93 on debut v Pakistan and 95 v Australia during the World Cup, van der Dussen finally got his first international century on Friday. He now averages 83 in ODIs.
- Kagiso Rabada- as the leader of the attack it is his job to bowl with pace throughout the Pakistan innings. However, Temba Bavuma will be looking for more numbers in the wicket’s column at the New Wanderers.
SA Team Form
South Africa came into this game on the back of six wins from their previous seven ODI games. You have to go back to the 2019 World Cup to find the last time they lost successive matches in this format.
South Africa Predicted Playing 11
Quinton de Kock (wk), Aiden Markram, Temba Bavuma (c) , Rassie van der Dussen, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Andile Phehlukwayo, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi, Tabraiz Shamsi
Pakistan Team News & Playing 11
PAK Team News
Pakistan have 18 players to select from during this three game ODI series. But after successfully chasing down the 274 target, we would expect them to go again with the same XI and aim for a replica result.
PAK Key Players
- Babar Azam- to call Babar Azam a key player for Pakistan is a gross understatement. He now has 13 centuries in 78 ODIs and is second only to India captain Virat Kohli in the ICC ODI batting rankings. You have to go back 27 ODI innings to find the last time he didn’t make a double-figure score.
- Imam ul-Haq- after debuting in this format in late 2017, Imam ul-Haq has fast made himself an integral part of the Pakistan top order. He has played 41 ODIs and averages 52.88 with 7 tons in this format.
- Shaheen Afridi- the left-arm fast bowler is an integral part of Pakistan’s bowling attack across all three formats of the game. He has an impeccable yorker and bowls at the top and the death of the opposition’s innings. Like Rabada, he will hope to get a chance to finish off the tail-enders in the second ODI.
PAK Team Form
It’s one of the biggest cliches in cricket to describe Pakistan as inconsistent. And certainly within ODIs, they are everything but inconsistent, winning nine out of ten of their last games with the only defeat coming in a super over against Zimbabwe.
Pakistan Predicted Playing 11
Imam ul-Haq, Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam (c) , Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Danish Aziz, Asif Ali, Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Hasnain, Haris Rauf

🏆 South Africa vs Pakistan Prediction
We predict another close game in the second ODI, Pakistan a victory away from a series win and Temba Bavuma keen to get his first win as skipper. Ultimately it may come down to which of the batting line-ups are best suited to the New Wanderers Stadium pitch. We are going for a home win and Pakistan’s impressive ODI recent record to be brought to a halt.
