Somerset won their opening T20 Blast game of the season by 8 wickets in a re-run of last year’s final against Kent Spitfires. Although they lost in the showpiece event of 2021, Somerset were excellent value for the victory on Wednesday. Without a scheduled game on Friday, they took on a Sri Lanka XI and won by 66 runs at home and got more valuable match practice for their talented squad. George Bartlett, who couldn’t get into the team on Wednesday, hit 82 not-out in Friday’s clash. 

Essex Eagles began their 2022 T20 Blast campaign with a 4 wicket victory against Kent Spitfires on Friday evening. In a tight game which the Eagles won with 2 balls to spare, Kent won the toss, chose to bat first and saw all of their top four batter hit scores between 31 and 48. They posted 184-4 with a wicket apiece for Daniel Sams, Aron Nijjar, Matt Critchley and Simon Harmer. The Essex openers put on 48 for the first wicket but it was 47 not out from Paul Walter which saw them to and across the finish line.
