Somerset Team News & Playing 11

SOM Team News

New signing Jerome Taylor slotted in for Craig Overton for the match against Surrey last time out but it could be Jamie Overton who misses out against Middlesex. Captain Lewis Gregory is fit again and proved as much with a quick-fire 50 not out in Somerset's rain-reduced innings.

SOM Key Players

Corey Anderson's eight runs against Surrey were enough to take him to 200 so far in this year's competition. He also has a strike rate of 172.41.

Captain Lewis Gregory's unbeaten half-century, from just 23 balls, was his first half-century of this year's competition. James Hildreth has hit two but has also been out for a duck twice.

Max Waller and Roelof van der Merwe have kept things tidy with the ball, meanwhile. Leg-spinner Waller has five wickets and an economy rate of 6.64 runs per over, while slow left-armer Van der Merwe has taken six wickets and has an economy rate of 7.69 runs per over. All other Somerset bowlers have an economy rate above ten-an-over.

SOM Team Form

Somerset have won three and lost three so far in this year's Vitality T20 Blast, with defeat to Surrey last time out in a rain-reduced ten-over game ending a two-game winning streak. Aaron Finch's heroics saw Surrey reach 102/1 to win in just 6.4 overs.

Prior to that, however, Somerset posted 190/5 to beat Glamorgan by 30 runs and had beaten Middlesex at Lord's - chasing 176 to win by four wickets with two overs to spare.

Their other fixtures this season saw them open their campaign with a six-wicket defeat of Gloucestershire - scoring 194/4 in 16.5 overs to win by six wickets - before back-to-back defeats to Kent Spitfires, who comfortably chased 160 to win, and Gloucestershire in the reverse fixture.

Middlesex Team News & Playing 11

MDX Team News

Dwayne Bravo has played his final game as one of Middlesex's overseas players, meaning Ashton Agar is their sole overseas star now. Dawid Malan is being rested as a caution ahead of England's first test with India but his absence is offset by the return of Eoin Morgan. England's limited-overs captain will take over the reins from Malan, just as he did for the win against Hampshire last time out.

MDX Key Players

England limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan has found runs hard to come by since returning from international duty, but his reputation speaks for itself and he did hit an unbeaten 88 in England's most recent ODI before returning to domestic duty.

Paul Stirling top-scored against Hampshire last time out, however, as he scored 60 from 44 balls – his second half-century of this year's t20 Blast. Stirling has 160 runs so far, which is one behind in-form Max Holden. Holden has scored his in two fewer innings.

Steven Finn claimed 3-21 last time out as he bids to make up for lost time after missing several matches. Middlesex's top wicket-taker is James Fuller, however – helped by his stunning 6-28 against Hampshire in Southampton.

MDX Team Form

Middlesex beat Surrey by three wickets, chasing 158/6, in 19 overs in their first game but that failed to set the tone for the rest of the tournament.

They failed to defend 179/6 against Essex Eagles and 160/7 against Gloucestershire, before again not being able to defend 175/5 in the previous match against Somerset. Despite James Fuller's bowling heroics, claiming 6-28, Middlesex fell 21 runs short of Hampshire's 184 all out.

They got back to winning ways, however, when Hampshire headed to Lord's. After posting 165/8, Middlesex then dismissed the visitors for 143.

Somerset vs Middlesex Head to Head

Middlesex have only ever beaten Somerset three times in the history of this fixture, with eight defeats and one tie in the other nine games. That includes Somerset winning their last three in a row in this fixture - both of last season's matches and the game at Lord's earlier this season.

Most impressive of those three wins was the 207/9 they posted. Lewis Gregory scored 37, Adam Hose added 59 and James Hildreth took 19 balls to score 38. In reply. Craig Overton's 3-24 ensured Middlesex had no way back.

🏆 Somerset vs Middlesex Prediction

Somerset beat Middlesex in the reverse fixture of this one and - with a great record against Middlesex - are more than capable of winning this one too. That would make it four wins in a row.

Final Verdict: Back Somerset to beat Middlesex
