Dubai Capitals are favorites to win
Sharjah Warriors will take on Dubai Capitals at the Dubai International Stadium. Match 17 of the 2022-23 ILT20 gets underway at 18:00 local time on Thursday 26th January.
Under the captaincy of Moeen Ali, Sharjah Warriors have recovered from a poor start to the tournament and have beaten Dubai Capitals and Gulf Giants over their last two matches. They will be looking to do the double over the Capitals in this game.
Former England international Joe Denly has been a reliable presence for the Warriors and has hit scores of 36 not-out, 29 not-out and 58 from his last four innings. The opening pair of Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Tom Kohler-Cadmore are both very attacking players.
England all-format bowling all-rounder, Chris Woakes, produced incredible figures against Gulf Giants, producing a maiden from his four overs which conceded only 11 runs. Afghanistan’s Naveen-ul-Haq has taken seven wickets across the last two matches but went wicketless in the last game in Sharjah.
Sharjah Warriors lost their first three games of the tournament but are now looking for their third successive victory.
Rovman Powell’s side are another team to have recently ended a losing run and they recorded their second victory of the tournament on Sunday when they beat MI Emirates. The game in Abu Dhabi yielded 428 runs and the Dubai Capitals’ top order will come into this match full of confidence.
England right-hander Joe Root has made scores of 82 runs from 54 balls and 80 not out from 54 balls in his last two innings. The second score came in the first match against Sharjah Warriors and he will be looking forward to facing the bowling attack again. Skipper Rovman Powell has hit 97 and 44 from his last two games.
Defending a total of 233, the Dubai Capitals’ bowlers had plenty of runs to play with in their last match. UAE medium pacer Hazrat Luqman outperformed some of the bigger names in the bowling attack to finish with figures of 2-24. In their last match in Sharjah, it was Isuru Udana and Akif Raja who both dismissed two batters.
Dubai Capitals ended a run of three defeats with their 16 run win on Sunday.
The match will be played at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Any score over 185 will be hard to chase down on this pitch which has consistent bounce but is not the fastest of the surfaces in this competition.
