Scotland Women will take on Ireland Women in the opening WIT20 at The Grange Club, Edinburgh. The first of three games in the series begins at 13:00 local time on Monday 5th September.

Scotland Women will host a women’s international at The Grange Club for the first time in this match in a sure sign that women’s cricket is gaining traction in Scotland. This will be the ninth time that Scotland Women and Ireland Women have played out an IT20 with the visitors currently leading the head to head in this format 5-3. However, it was the hosts who won the last meeting between the sides, triumphing in the T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier in Cartagena in August 2021. Captain Kathryn Bryce was the hero on that day, hitting 46 not out as Scotland successfully chased down their target of 90 with one over to spare. Bryce has been featuring in the Women’s Hundred and we expect her to be Scotland’s key player in this opening game.

Ireland Women come into this series on the back of a 3-0 series win over Netherlands’ Women in the ODI format in Amstelveen. Many of the same players will be involved in this series and will be high on confidence after winning the games by five wickets, 210 runs and eight wickets. Leah Paul and Laura Delaney both scored centuries in the second game with Paul’s 137 a new record for Ireland Women. The pair put on 236 to record the second highest third wicket partnership across all WODIs. 21 year old Leg-spinner Cara Murray also made the headlines in that game by taking 5-39, her best figures in international cricket. Gaby Lewis will be another Irish player to watch in this series, she comes in after hitting 92 in the final WODI against Netherlands and a brief stint as a replacement player for Northern Superchargers in the Women’s Hundred.
