South Africa Women are favorites to win
South Africa Women Women will take on West Indies Women at Buffalo Park, East London. Match 4 of the Tri-Nation Series gets underway at 15:00 local time on Wednesday 25th January.
The hosts were beaten by India Women by 27 runs in the opening game of the tri-nation series but bounced back with an impressive 44 run win over West Indies on Saturday. They will be expecting to at least match that winning margin in this game.
South Africa Women posted 141-5 in Match 2 but will feel as though they should be hitting a score of 155-160 on this wicket. Marizanne Kapp top scored with 52 runs from 43 balls with skipper Sune Luus (30 runs from 26 balls) and Laura Wolvaardt (25 runs from 30) both keen to go bigger in this match.
South Africa Women’s bowlers have arguably been the best of all three sides in the tri-nation series so far. They took six India Women’s wickets in Match 1 before returning to restrict West Indies Women to 97-8. Medium pacer Masabata Klaas took 4-21 against West Indies Women and will be keen to bowl at them again on Wednesday.
South Africa Women have won one and lost one in this tournament and have two wins from their last three in this format.
As expected ahead of this tri-nation series, it has been very hard work for West Indies Women who have lost both of their games. South Africa Women beat them by 44 runs before India Women increased the winning margin to 56 runs on Monday.
Captain Hayley Matthews admitted that she and the team management had real concerns about their batting unit but we have seen improvements over the first two games. Shemaine Campbelle (47 runs from 57 balls) top scored against India Women with Matthews finishing unbeaten on 34 not out.
Although the batting is seen as the major issue, West Indies Women only took two India Women wickets in the last game. They struggled against a very strong India Women batting line up and will be pleased to be facing South Africa Women who they took five wickets from on Saturday.
West Indies Women are in a long losing streak in this format and are way below the levels of their opponents.
The match will be played at Buffalo Park, East London. Any score of over 150 will be very hard to chase down by any side in the second innings. There is good pace off the wicket on this pitch.

Hayley Matthews dropped down the order and gave others an opportunity at the top in the last game. Although they didn’t win the game, it was good to see West Indies Women being proactive looking for solutions to their batting issues. We expect South Africa Women to be the stronger side with bat and ball and are backing them to win this match.
