South Africa Team News & Playing 11

SA Team News

Beuran Hendricks, flown in as replacement for the injured Dale Steyn, could slot straight into the South Africa line-up for the match against West Indies. With Steyn ruled out of the tournament and Lungi Ngidi also unlikley to feature in this game, Hendricks could be a part of the pace attack, replacing second spinner Tabraiz Shamsi. Hashim Amla returned last time out, in place of Aiden Markram – if Markram and Shamsi both miss out this time, JP Duminy’s bowling responsibility will increase. Markram, however, will probably be drafted into the line-up if Rassie van der Dussen is not available. Rassie picked up a groin strain during South Africa’s last match against India and remains doubtful for this West Indies clash.

SA Key Players

South Africa’s batsmen have failed to showcase their best form so far, with half-centuries for Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis and Rassie van der Dussen not capitalised upon.

All three lead the South African batting, with De Kock and Du Plessis ranked among the best ODI batsmen in the world and Van der Dussen having made a brilliant start to his ODI career, but South Africa need a big score to pick their batting form up and they will be hoping for Van der Dussen to regain full fitness ahead of this crucial game.

With the ball, meanwhile, Kagiso Rabada returned to some of his best form last time out as he took 2-39 from ten overs against India. Imran Tahir is, like Rabada, also in the top five in the world rankings and has four wickets so far in this year’s tournament.

SA Team Form

South Africa could not have made a worse start to this World Cup, suffering three defeats in a row and losing iconic paceman Dale Steyn in his final tournament.

The Proteas were bowled out for 207 in reply to England’s 311/8 in the opening game, and then fell short chasing against Bangladesh too – hitting 309/8 in reply to 330/6.

Last time out, against India, they could only muster 227/9 batting first – a score which proved well below par as the Indians eased to a six-wicket win.

West Indies Team News & Playing 11

WI Team News

Evin Lewis replaced Darren Bravo last time out, opening the batting with Chris Gayle as Shai Hope dropped to number three. West Indies are having to carefully manage Gayle and Andre Russell’s fitness, but there were no other changes for the match against Australia. Despite facing defeat in that game, the Windies are likely to field the same eleven.

WI Key Players

West Indies’ fast bowlers have lived up to their countrymen’s reputation with some hostile spells so far in this World Cup 2019. Oshane Thomas followed up his 4-27 against Pakistan with 2-63 last time out, while Sheldon Cottrell, Jason Holder, Andre Russell and Carlos Brathwaite have all picked up wickets too.

Russell is among the top batsmen in this team too, particularly if he can deliver the same all-round form he showed during the IPL.

Holder passed 50 against Australia, meanwhile, and Shai Hope top-scored with 68 – continuing his excellent ODI form. Hope’s scoring rate was a little slow, however, and he will want to amend that as he builds on an ODI average north of 50.

Chris Gayle hit a half-century in the first game, and Nicholas Pooran has scored 34* and 40 so far.

WI Team Form

Oshane Thomas and Jason Holder took seven wickets between them to lead West Indies to victory against Pakistan, while Andre Russell claimed 2-4 from three overs. After dismissing Pakistan for 105 in 21.4 overs, Chris Gayle’s half-century led them to a seven-wicket win.

Last time out, West Indies restricted Australia to 79/5 but they ended up needing 289 to win – falling just short despite both Shai Hope and Jason Holder scoring half-centuries, as they finished on 273/9.

West Indies Predicted Playing 11

Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Shai Hope (wk), Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, Andre Russell, Jason Holder (c), Carlos Brathwaite, Ashley Nurse, Sheldon Cottrell, Oshane Thomas
