Kings XI Punjab are favourites to win
It has been a similar story for Rising Pune Supergiants and Kings XI Punjab in this ninth edition of the Indian Premier League 2016. Both have 8 points from 13 games and are lying at the bottom two positions in the league standings. They have been eliminated from the tournament and will be playing for pride when they face each other at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The 53rd match of the season will be played on May 21 with live action scheduled to begin at 4 PM local time. This will be the last game for both these teams who will be looking to finish on a high.
Pitch Conditions and Toss
The venue has hosted 5 IPL games this year of which three have been won by the side batting first and two of these victories were achieved by a huge margin. The ball has also showed some movement during the second innings which will probably induce a decision to bat first here after winning the toss.
This hasn't been a high scoring ground as only two scores have been made in excess of 170. The rest have all been around the 130 mark. This is a kind of pitch where the batsmen will have to be careful with their shot selection and play on the merit of the ball. So anything around 150 should be a competitive first innings total.

If Rising Pune Supergiants Bat First
Predicted score: 130+
Rahane has been the most consistent batsman for RPS and should be the first choice for placing a top-batsman bet. Though Khawaja has done well with the bat for Australia in the past, he hasn't looked promising enough in this IPL. Bailey has only scored 75 in his four innings while Tiwary was dismissed cheaply in the previous two games. So with the middle-order looking a little rusty, the in-form Rahane will have to score big against KXIP. If he bats long and if the others can chip in with a few runs too, Dhoni and Perera can then unleash their big-hitting abilities in the death overs to take RPS to the predicted total.
Sandeep and Mohit Sharma will lead the pace attack for KXIP and if they manage to get a couple of quick wickets including Rahane, Pune's unstable middle-order will be exposed. Spinners Patel and Cariappa should be effective on this pitch and if they bowl well in tandem, getting close to 130 won’t be easy for RPS.

If Kings XI Punjab Bat First
Predicted score: 140+
Their batting relies heavily on the opening pair of Vijay and Amla. Wicketkeeper-batsman Saha at no. 3 has been fetching runs on a consistent basis. But Miller's lack of batting form has been their biggest let down this season and Gurkeerat Singh's ability to bat long while scoring quickly is questionable. So how many runs the Kings can put up on the board will depend mostly on how their top three perform. If Amla and Vijay can get in a good partnership, KXIP should go on to post 140.
Dinda and Perera will be the RPS bowlers to watch out for within the powerplay. Perera has showed a lot of consistency with the ball while Dinda will be coming from an exceptional 3-wicket haul performance against the Delhi Daredevils. Adam Zampa too bagged three wickets against Delhi and has become the highest wicket-taker for his side with 11 wickets in four games. If Pune run through Punjab's top-order, Zampa and Ashwin could make life difficult for their middle order and they will have a great chance of restricting them below 140.
Our Prediction
As for the recent performances of the two teams, both RPS and KXIP have won only two of their last five games. But while Punjab faced back-to-back defeats in their previous two fixtures, Pune won their previous outing against the Daredevils. So it is RPS that will be going into the match with the momentum on their side.
In their previous meeting at Mohali, KXIP outplayed RPS with a comprehensive 6-wicket win. This will lift their spirits up and will make them more confident in their approach.
Though there is very little to choose between the two teams, we feel that Kings XI Punjab will have a slight edge over the injury-riddled Rising Pune Supergiants on Saturday.
