With Mitchell Marsh, Jhye Richardson and Jason Behrendorff in the Australian ODI squad – and Shaun Marsh already unavailable due to test commitments before also being selected – David Willey, Aaron Hardie and Usman Qadir all came into the side for the win against Melbourne Stars last time out. Mitchell Marsh’s illness saw Ashton Turner added to the squad too in a further blow for the Scorchers, meanwhile, meaning he too will miss out against Sydney Sixers.

Cameron Bancroft’s return continues apace, however – he hit 59 from 42 balls against Melbourne Stars last time out – his first half-century since his return from his ball-tampering ban.

Andrew Tye was back to his best with the ball, meanwhile, claiming 4-18 from four overs to look more like the bowler who has terrorised BBL batsmen in recent seasons. He now has eight wickets in the tournament, the same as Nathan Coulter-Nile.

Victory against Melbourne Stars last time out was only Perth Scorchers’ second win of the tournament so far. They had previously lost three in a row since bowling Adelaide Strikers out for 88 on their way to a seven-wicket win.

They scored just 107/8 in a six-wicket loss to Hobart Hurricanes and then fell just short against Sydney Thunder – Ashton Turner’s unbeaten 60 from 36 balls almost pulling off a stunning comeback as the Scorchers recovered from 54/5 in 11.1 overs to finish on 141/5 in a one-run defeat.Next up, they were unable to defend a below-par 134/6 against Brisbane Heat, despite more good batting from Turner and 3-25 from Nathan Coulter-Nile with the ball in a five-wicket loss, but they did bounce back against Melbourne Stars. After Andrew Tye’s 4-18 from four overs with the ball, Cameron Bancroft hit 59 from 42 balls to lead the Scorchers to a six-wicket win.
