Perth Scorchers Team News & Playing 11

PRS Team News

Mitchell Marsh captained the team on his return last time out, while Shaun Marsh opened the batting and blasted an unbeaten 96. Jason Behrendorff returned to take a spot in the bowling attack, meanwhile, as Michael Klinger, Sam Whiteman and Will Bosisto all dropped out, while Aaron Hardie was replaced by Nick Hobson. David Willey has had to return home with a shoulder injury and Ashton Agar has a dislocated finger, however, while Jhye Richardson was a late addition to the Australian test squad.

PRS Key Players

Shaun Marsh showed exactly what Perth have been missing while he has been away with Australia. He hammered an unbeaten 96 from 55 balls, including five fours and five sixes. He had been in good form in the recent Australia vs India ODI series too, scoring 54, 131 and 39 from his three innings and was unlucky to be dropped from the test squad.

Brother Mitchell was in less impressive form, but shared a 58-run partnership with Shaun last time out on his way to a useful 31. The Scorchers will now hope Cameron Bancroft and Ashton Turner recapture their form around them to form a potentially fearsome top four. Bancroft has 199 runs from seven innings so far in BBL 2018/19, including two half-centuries, while Turner has hit 306 from ten innings. With the ball, Jason Behrendorff marked his return with his ninth wicket of the tournament, taking him level with team-mate Nathan Coulter-Nile, while Andrew Tye has rediscovered his wicket-taking form – his recent form includes 4-18 against the Melbourne Stars and nine wickets in his last four matches.

PRS Team Form

After two consecutive wins to get their campaign back on track, the Perth Scorchers have now lost two in a row since and remain bottom of the points table. They had previously lost three in a row too, before Andrew Tye’s 4-18 and Cameron Bancroft’s 59 helped them beat Melbourne Stars, chasing 147 to win with 2.2 overs remaining.

They followed that up with a brilliant reply to 177/5 against Sydney Sixers – Bancroft hitting an unbeaten 87 from 61 balls to power the chase as the Scorchers eased to a seven-wicket win.

The in-form Hobart Hurricanes beat them in a last-over thriller to end their resurgent form, however – despite Sam Whiteman having hit 68 to lift the Scorchers to 177/9. Needing 16 off the final over, Hobart took just three balls to reach their target and earn a four-wicket win.

And defeat to Sydney Thunder last time out- again in the last over – made it back-to-back defeats again for the Scorchers. Shaun Marsh’s unbeaten 96 from 55 balls lifted them to 181/4but Callum Ferguson hammered an unbeaten century in reply and the Thunder won by six wickets with four balls to spare.

Melbourne Renegades Team News & Playing 11

MLR Team News

Aaron Finch’s absence from the Australian test squad means he has returned to captain the Melbourne Renegades. Marcus Harris is in the test squad, however, and was replaced at the top of the order by Cameron Boyce last time out – Matthew Harvey coming into the team but slotting in down the order. Chris Tremain also made his first Big Bash appearance of the season, having previously been with the Cricket Australia XI against Sri Lanka.

MLR Key Players

Aaron Finch hammered his 53rd T20 half-century (he has six hundreds too) in the win against Sydney Thunder last time out – he has 110 runs from his three Big Bash innings so far and he has plenty to prove after this test omission.

It was only the second half-century by a Gades batsman this season – Sam Harper scoring the other, against Brisbane Heat, on his way to 232 runs from 11 innings so far.

Finch was backed by Cameron White last time out, meanwhile – the big-hitting veteran scored 40 off 29 balls to register his highest score of this year’s Big Bash League.

Kane Richardson claimed two more wickets with the ball, meanwhile, to follow his 2-17 against the Melbourne Stars. Richardson has 18 wickets so far – more than any other bowler – and has taken ten in his last four games.

Harry Gurney got the man of the match award, meanwhile, for his 2-27 from four overs and he has five wickets in his four Big Bash appearances so far.

MLR Team Form

Melbourne Renegades have been inconsistent but they have still taken four wins from their last six matches. That includes Aaron Finch scoring 42 in a six-wicket win against Hobart Hurricanes to kick-start this run of form. Next up, they needed just 15.4 overs to beat Brisbane Heat by eight wickets – Sam Harper scoring a half-century as they chased 145 to win – but they were then bowled out for 91 by the Heat in the next match in a 101-run defeat.

Victory against Sydney Sixers followed – Mohammad Nabi taking 4-25 as the Sixers were restricted to 115/9 before the Renegades claimed a seven-wicket win – but they then lost the Victoria Derby after being bowled out for just 121 by Melbourne Stars; losing by six wickets with four balls to spare.

Again they bounced back, however, as Aaron Finch scored 54 in a total of 152/9 against Sydney Thunder and Kane Richardson and Harry Gurney both took two wickets in reply as the Thunder could only reach 140/5.
