Read on for our betting tips and match prediction for Pakistan vs West Indies second one-day international...
The wicket at Sharjah isn't expected to be a belter, but of a more balanced nature which will have something for both the batsmen and the bowlers to exploit. Stroke-making should not be easy straight way. However, batsmen will find it easier to score once they get their eye in. We feel that chasing 275 or more here under lights should be quite a challenge.
The side batting first at this ground has won more games in the recent past. So whichever team wins the toss is probably going to bat first.
The best chance for the Windies will be to bat first and put pressure on Pakistan by posting enough runs on the board. Else, the hosts will easily walk away with the game.
Predicted Score: Around 275
For Pakistan to reach a score of around 275, Babar Azam, Sharjeel Khan, Sarfraz Ahmed and Shoaib Malik will have to bat well. Babar Azam has done a decent job with the bat and has delivered match-winning performances for his team on multiple occasions. He is going to be the key element in Pakistan's batting and a favorite to top-score in this match. So he needs to get the big runs with the others playing a supporting role.
The West Indian pace attack will be led by Carlos Brathwaite and Jason Holder who will have the responsibility to make early inroads into the Pakistani batting lineup. However, the slowish nature of the pitch makes Sunil Narine and Sulieman Benn as the bowlers to watch out for. The two are expected to get good grip and turn off the surface which could leave the batsmen in all sorts of problems. Pakistan will struggle to reach the predicted score if these two spinners bowl well.
Predicted Score: Around 240
Johnson Charles and Darren Bravo are going to be the important batsmen at the top while Marlon Samuels and Denesh Ramdin will provide stability to the middle order. Bravo has shown his versatility in the past by batting well on different kinds of pitches and we feel that he stands a good chance of top-scoring here. If the top-order can get West Indies off to a strong start, Samuels will find it easier to score runs and take the team's total to around 240.
Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz are the two main bowlers in the Pakistani seam attack. Amir is always dangerous with the new ball and he will be backed by the team to strike early and derail the West Indian innings. But more damage is likely to come from their two spinners - Yasir Shah and Imad Wasim. If these two bowl well in tandem, the visitors' scorecard may not look good at the end. Expect Imad Wasim to be the top bowler for Pakistan.
West Indies are playing this series with half their strength. The team is devoid of game-changers like Chris Gayle, Darren Sammy, Andre Russell and Dwayne Bravo. And to make things worse, their batsmen have not been allowed to gain a foothold so far on this tour. Pakistan, on the contrary, are clearly enjoying playing in conditions favorable to them. There doesn't seem to be any major issues in their batting and their bowlers, especially the spinners, have responded better than their West Indian counterparts.
West Indies can turn their fortunes around if they start producing better efforts with the bat. But the chances of this happening aren't much and therefore, we predict Pakistan to win this second one-day international.
