Dew on the wicket has encouraged plenty of captains to field first in this competition upon winning the toss. South Africa’s only win came when they bowled first and Faf du Plessis could be hoping for a repeat.
While there will be some cloud cover, London is set for a scorching Sunday as temperatures rise in the UK.
With the rain having cleared, the Lord’s pitch should be in tip-top condition for the first 2019 Cricket World Cup game to be played at HQ. The bounce should be true and the outfield quick.

Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim were brought in to face India, with Shaheen Afridi and Asif Ali making way. Both offer better balance to the bowling line-up, with less pressure on Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez’s part-time spin.
Pakistan’s top three remain dangerous, even if they have not shown their full capabilities consistently enough in this tournament. Imam-ul-Haq was in fine form against South Africa’s bowlers when these countries last met in January and he still averages 55.29 in ODI cricket.
Babar Azam still averages north of 50 too, but needs to start capitalising on his good starts – he has scored 63, 30 and 48 in his last three innings and now needs to kick on towards three figures.
Fakhar Zaman’s average has now dropped below 50, having been above it ahead of the tournament, but he top-scored against India with a patient 62 at the top of the order.
With the ball, Mohammad Amir has taken full advantage of his late call-up to the Pakistan squad – he has 13 wickets from four matches so far, including 5-30 against Australia and 3-47 against India. As well as being their leading wicket-taker, Amir’s economy rate of 4.72 is comfortably Pakistan’s best too.
Pakistan have failed to kick on from beating England in their second game of the tournament, when they posted 348/8 at Trent Bridge in a 14-run victory.
They were frustrated by the rain when their next match, against Sri Lanka, was called off, and have lost to Australia and India since. They bowled Australia out for 307 in the first of those with Mohammad Amir claiming 5-30 but could only reach 266 in reply.
Against fierce rivals India, they were set 337 to win but were always well behind the asking rate. Rain restricted their innings to 40 overs, and their score of 212/6 was 89 behind the revised DLS target.

After he struggled with the bat and ball against New Zealand, Andile Phehlukwayo could make way against Pakistan, with Dwaine Pretorius and Beuran Hendricks both options to replace him. Lungi Ngidi returned from injury for that game, however, and will continue to lead the pace attack with Kagiso Rabada.
Rassie van der Dussen continued his excellent ODI career to date when he top-scored with an unbeaten 67 against New Zealand – his second half-century of the tournament and his sixth in 12 ODI innings.
Van der Dussen has 180 runs from four innings so far, but Quinton de Kock is the team’s top scorer with 191 from six. The IPL winner has also hit two half-centuries in the tournament, including his 68 in the win against Afghanistan.
Faf du Plessis and Hashim Amla have also shown flashes of their best form, with some classy stroke play last time out at Edgbaston, and South Africa need the two of them to kick on if their form is to improve.
Chris Morris delivered some lusty blows with the bat and bowled well against New Zealand. He is the team’s leading wicket-taker with nine so far and the most economic of the bowlers too. Kagiso Rabada has six and Lungi Ngidi is back and looking to add the four he has taken.
Imran Tahir’s leg-spin has contributed eight wickets, meanwhile, on the back of his IPL heroics – where he beat Rabada to the orange cap with 26 wickets to his compatriot’s 25.
South Africa’s hopes of a last-four place appear to be over after just one win and one no result from their six matches so far.
Realistically needing to win their final five games to stand any chance of finishing in the top four, South Africa did the job in the first – bowling Afghanistan out for 125 on their way to a dominant nine-wicket win. They could not back it up, however. They were restricted to 241/6 against New Zealand at Edgbaston, in a match reduced to 49 overs apiece, and lost by four wickets with just three balls remaining.

South Africa have a dominant head-to-head record in ODIs against Pakistan, with their 3-2 series win at home in January taking them to 50 wins in this fixture. With Imam-ul-Haq in good batting form for Pakistan, the series was an even one. Quinton de Kock scored 83 from 58 runs in the decider at Cape Town, however, as South Africa chased 241 in just 40 overs to win by seven wickets.

With both teams out of form, South Africa are actually favourites to win with the bookmakers, meaning there are some tempting prices on a Pakistan victory.
Babar Azam and Quinton de Kock to both score a half-century is 4.75 with Betway’s #betyourway.
Both men to be their team’s top batsman is 13.00, whole Azam, de Kock and Faf Du Plessis to all hit a six is worth 15.00.
Fakhar Zaman to score over 30.5 runs, Kagiso Rabada to take over 1.5 wickets and Pakistan to win is 7.00.
Babar Azam to score over 35.5 runs, Mohammad Amir to take over 1.5 wickets and Chris Morris to take over 1.5 wickets is also worth backing at 6.50.
A good balance between the star players of both teams can be achieved if you are smart with the potential bargains on offer.
Wicket-keeper
Quinton de Kock opens the batting for South Africa and is their top run scorer in the tournament so far. There is no question he has to be picked ahead of Sarfaraz Ahmed.
Batsmen
Rassie van der Dussen has hit two half-centuries so far for South Africa, like De Kock, and was in good form last time out. Faf du Plessis showed some nice touches too and the Proteas’ captain should not be overlooked. Pakistan’s star batsmen, Babar Azam and Imam-ul-Haq, are both capable of some big scores too. Aiden Markram will bat up for the order for South Africa and so his price of eight credits could turn out to be a bargain.
All-rounders
The all-rounders are where you can save a few credits too, given in-form Chris Morris can be picked up for just 8.5.
Bowlers
Mohammad Amir has been one of the bowlers of the tournament so far and is a must-pick. Wahab Riaz is Pakistan’s next highest wicket-taker, meanwhile, and may find some assistance at Lord’s. For South Africa, Lungi Ngidi is fit again and can be picked up for 8.5 credits. That leaves nine credits for the final bowler, and Imran Tahir gets our pick ahead of Kagiso Rabada.
Captain/Vice-captain
Mohammad Amir has been on fire so far with the ball, including picking up eight wickets in his last two matches. With the bat, Pakistan will be looking to Babar Azam and Imam-ul-Haq to score some early runs, while South Africa have Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen. Any one of those latter four could be a good pick for vice-captain.
BATSMEN | ALL ROUNDER | WICKET KEEPER | BOWLER |

Pakistan need a win to keep their World Cup 2019 hopes alive, while South Africa’s campaign appears to be heading for disappointment regardless. The Proteas have the better record in this fixture, but Pakistan could upset the odds.
