Pakistan Team News & Playing 11

PAK Team News

Mohammad Abbas and Shan Masood made their ODI debuts in the first game. Both are likely to retain their places after solid showings too. Saad Ali, Abid Ali and teenage paceman Mohammad Hasnain will be hoping to follow suit during this series. With some expensive bowling figures in the first game, Hasnain, Junaid Khan and Usman Shinwari could all come into contention for the second match.

PAK Key Players

Haris Sohail hit an unbeaten century - his first in ODI cricket - in the first match of the series. He averages 48.22 in the 50-over international game from 26 appearances, having also hit ten 50s.

Umar Akmal and Shoaib Malik offer strength in the middle order too, with the former having scored 48 last time out and the latter's experience vital too. Both made small impressions on the PSL recently.

Talking of the PSL, a number of Pakistani players will be hope to continue in the same vein of form they showed there. Faheem Ashraf took 1-50 last time out having been in stunning bowling form in that tournament. He took 4-18 and 6-19 in consecutive matches at one point.

PAK Team Form

Pakistan went into this series on the back of a 3-2 defeat in South Africa and a 1-1 draw in the UAE against New Zealand.

Defeat in the first game in this series is their fourth in their last five ODIs, with their only win in that time arriving against South Africa in Johannesburg. Defeat in the final game cost them the series, however, and Haris Sohail's unbeaten century could not inspire a win last time out. He helped Pakistan set 280/5, but Australia lost just two wickets and got home with an over to spare.

Pakistan Predicted Playing 11

Imam-ul-Haq, Shan Masood, Haris Sohail, Umar Akmal, Shoaib Malik, Faheem Ashraf, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Hasnain, Yasir Shah, Usman Shinwari, Mohammad Abbas

Australia Team News & Playing 11

AUS Team News

Having elected not to call David Warner and Steve Smith up as their year-long bans expire, Australia also replaced Ashton Turner and Pat Cummins from the team which sealed series victory in India last time out. Nathan Coulter-Nile and Shaun Marsh were the two to come into the team. Kane Richardson and Jason Behrendorff were also overlooked for the first match.

Expect plenty of rotation through this series, however, as Australia finalise their World Cup squad. Cummins could return to the pace attack this time out after Jhye Richardson and Coulter-Nile proved expensive.

AUS Key Players

Aaron Finch got back to form last time out with a superb century to lead the Australian chase. Inconsistency has been his problem but he did also hit 93 in the third match against India.

Usman Khawaja has cemented his place at the top of the innings with him, meanwhile. Khawaja hit 50, 38, 104, 91 and 100 in the series against India before his more modest 24 last time out.

Shaun Marsh hit 91* to recapture his best form too, and with Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell further options with the bat there is plenty of strength in depth – which begs the question of where Steve Smith and David Warner will even fit in when they do return.

With the ball, Australia were a little expensive last time out and Pat Cummins could return for this one. He took 14 wickets in the series against India and has 79 ODI wickets from 47 appearances in total.

Adam Zampa led the spin attack, meanwhile, and took 11 against India in five matches. He has 106 wickets in 73 List A innings.

AUS Team Form

Australia’s remarkable turnaround with India and victory against Pakistan in the first game of this series has seen them surge back to form just in time for the World Cup. They won the final three games in the series against India to come from 2-0 down and claim the series 3-2 and then continued where they left off last time out.

In that first game in Sharjah, Aaron Finch (116) and Shaun Marsh (91*) led Australia to an eight-wicket win with an over to spare as they chased 281 to win.

Australia Predicted Playing 11

Aaron Finch, Usman Khawaja, Shaun Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Peter Handscomb, Alex Carey, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Nathan Lyon, Pat Cummins, Adam Zampa

Pakistan vs Australia Head to Head

This will be the 100th ODI between Pakistan and Australia, with Australia’s victory in the 99th their 63rd in total in this fixture. There has been one tie and three no results, with Pakistan winning the other 32 matches.

The most recent series before this one saw Australia win 4-1 in a five-game series on home soil in January 2017, passing 350 in each of the last two matches batting first. David Warner was their star batsman in that series.

In the first game of this series, with Warner absent, Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh led them to an eight-wicket win chasing 281.

Pakistan vs Australia Betting Odds

After Australia's win in the first ODI - their fourth in a row - they are now just 1.57 with Bet365 to win the second game, compared to 2.37 on Pakistan to win.

Aaron Finch was the star man last time out and is 4.00 to be Australia's top batsman again, but Usman Khawaja is worth backing after his form against India too. He is also 4.00, while Shaun Marsh - who scored 91* in the first game - is 6.00.

For Pakistan, in-form Haris Sohail took the headlines. He is 5.00 to be their top batsman again, while Imam-ul-Haq (3.75) and Umar Akmal (5.00) could be other options.

Australia could recall Pat Cummins to counter that threat, however - he is 3.50 to be Australia's top bowler after his superb form against India.

🏆 Pakistan vs Australia Prediction

Australia won the first match - their fourth ODI win in a row - and they can make it five on the spin if they maintain their recent form, especially with the bat.
