Batsmen Zeeshan Maqsood and Aqib Ilyas have been ruled out of the tournament due to injuries and in their absence, Oman will now depend heavily on Khawar Ali, Mehran Khan, Khurram Nawaz and Naseem Khushi to perform well with the bat. Khawar Ali is one of their leading run-scorers in T20Is with 214 runs and the onus will be on him to take Oman to a flying start. Naseem Khushi and Mehran Khan are both hard-hitters and the team will be hoping for some fireworks from them. Bilal Khan is the team's best bowler in the T20 format with 21 wickets in 16 matches. The fast bowler took seven wickets in eight matches in the 2017 Desert T20 Challenge to finish as the second-best bowler of the tournament and he seems to be the main threat in Oman's bowling attack. Mohammad Nadeem and skipper Ajay Lalcheta are the other bowlers to watch out for.

Stirling is the team's leading run-getter in T20 internationals with 1181 runs which includes eight half-centuries. The skipper will have to lead from the front and ensure that his team gets off to a good start. Balbirnie and O'Brien have been around for a while now and Ireland will be hoping for strong contributions from these two experienced campaigners. In terms of bowling, it will be up to Boyd Rankin, George Dockrell and Peter Chase to do the job for their team. Dockrell has taken the most T20I wickets for Ireland - 59 in 54 matches - and the left-arm spinner could be very effective in these conditions. Chase was their best bowler with four wickets in two matches in last year's home T20I series versus Afghanistan and he along with Rankin are expected to make the early strikes in the powerplay.
