New Zealand Women are favorites to win
New Zealand Women will take on Bangladesh Women at the Hagley Oval, Christchurch. The opening game of the three-match WT20I series gets underway at 19:00 local time on Friday 2nd December.
The hosts bring good form into this WT20I series and will be very confident of getting off to a winning start in Christchurch on Friday evening. New Zealand Women won their last series in this format 3-1, with one match tied, away against West Indies Women.
New Zealand Women have a powerful batting line-up with many of their top players coming into this series off the back of a successful 2022 Big Bash. Suzie Bates hit 318 runs, including two half-centuries, for Sydney Sixers Women and will be full of confidence.
With a group of excellent all-rounders, New Zealand Women have plenty of options in their bowling attack ahead of this opening game. 22 year old leg-spinner, Amelia Kerr, took 21 wickets across the 2022 WBBL but may have to work harder for her wickets on this surface.
New Zealand Women have not lost any of their last four WT20Is.
This fixture will be Bangladesh Women’s first in this format since the 2022 Women’s Asia Cup in October. They won two of their six games in that tournament, against the lowly Malaysia but also against the rapidly improving Thailand. This will be a much tougher test for the side.
Captain Nigar Sultana and opener Murshida Khatun were the only Bangladesh Women batters to hit half-centuries during the Asia Cup and we expect the pair to be their main run-getters in this series also. New Zealand conditions will be tough for batting for Bangladesh Women’s players with limited experience over here.
Right-arm leg-spinner Rumana Ahmed was Bangladesh’s standout bowler during the Asia Cup but she may well find the pitch in Christchurch not quite as spinner friendly as in Sylhet a couple of months ago. Medium pacer Fariha Trisna should enjoy the conditions and get movement through the air and from the pitch.
Bangladesh Women have won only one of their last four matches in this format.
The match will be played at the Hagley Oval, Christchurch. Expect a wicket with good pace which will also offer movement off the pitch and through the air.

New Zealand Women are an excellent team at home and we expect them to dominate Bangladesh Women throughout this tour. Some of Bangladesh Women’s bowlers will cause a few problems but we expect their batters to struggle in the conditions in the early games. Our prediction is for a convincing win for New Zealand Women in this match.
