New Zealand are favorites to win
New Zealand will take on Sri Lanka at the Basin Reserve, Wellington. The Second Test of the two-match series gets underway at 11:00 local time on Friday 17th March.
The hosts have been involved in two of the most entertaining and close Tests of all time over the last two weeks and will fancy their chances of winning from any position ahead of this match. Neil Wagner sustained a back injury in the First Test and will not play in this game.
After scoring 132 in the Wellington Test win over England, Kane Williamson was again a key player as this time he dived off the final ball of the match to claim a bye and take New Zealand to victory. Daryl Mitchell continued his good form with 102 and 81 in Christchurch.
Tim Southee and Matt Henry were both excellent across both innings of the First Test before Blair Tickner came to life with 4-100 in the second inning of the game in Christchurch. Scott Kuggeleijn is expected to come into the side to take the place of Neil Wagner.
After losing seven Tests in a row, New Zealand are now targeting their third successive victory in this format.
The defeat earlier this week means that Sri Lanka can no longer qualify for the World Test Championship Final at The Oval in June. However, they will not be too down with how the First Test turned out and they will be pleased with how close they came to getting a win.
As expected, Angelo Mathews produced the goods in the First Test and he certainly deserved to be on the winning side after hitting 115 in the second innings and 47 in the first. As a team, their total of 355 in the first innings will be their target again in this Test.
In conditions which favoured the home team, there were very good performances from Kasun Rajitha, Asitha Fernando and Lahiru Kumara particularly in the first innings. Fernando was the standout performer with seven wickets and he will be a major threat again in this match.
Sri Lanka have now lost three of their last five and two of their last three Tests.
The match will be played at the Basin Reserve, Wellington. We expect another green wicket which will offer plenty of assistance to the seam and swing bowlers.

Tom Latham, Devon Conway, Kane Williamson, Henry Nicholls, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Blundell (wk), Michael Bracewell, Tim Southee (c), Matt Henry, Blair Tickner, Scott Kuggeleijn,

After a brilliant conclusion to the First Test, cricket fans from across the globe will be keeping an eye on this Test in Wellington. It will be very hard for Sri Lanka to play with the same level of consistency and we think their bowlers may struggle a little although their batting line-up is very experienced and full of talent. We expect a close game but are backing New Zealand to win by a more comfortable margin in this Test.
