Toss Prediction

Four of the last six ODIs at the Westpac Stadium have been won by the team that has batted second. So since it has been a little easier to chase down totals on this pitch in recent times, the team that wins the toss is more likely to bat second. We predict New Zealand to win the toss here on Saturday. The coin has landed in their favor three times in their last four matches at this venue.

New Zealand Team News & Playing 11

Team News

Martin Guptill is set to make a comeback after a hamstring injury had kept him away for the first three fixtures of the ongoing series. What remains to be seen is which of the two would be dropped upon Guptill's return - Dean Brownlie or a struggling Tom Latham.

Key Players

Martin Guptill averages 57 at the Westpac and is the second-highest Kiwi run-scorer in ODIs at this ground. But how well will he be able to perform after returning from a big break? Kane Williamson still remains New Zealand's best chances with the bat after having scored two successive fifties. Ross Taylor too sprung back into form with an unbeaten century in the last game. The team will once again bank on the pace of Trent Boult and Tim Southee and the turn of Mitchell Santner with the ball. Boult was outstanding with his three-wicket haul the other day and we predict him to deliver another good performance for New Zealand.

Recent Form

New Zealand's 50-overs form at home has been phenomenal of late. Since 2016, they have played 13 home ODIs winning 11 of them. Australia and South Africa are the only ones who have been able to overcome them here. The Kiwis have won three of their last five matches at the Westpac.

New Zealand Predicted Playing 11

  • Martin Guptill, TWM Latham (wk), KS Williamson (c), LRPL Taylor, NT Broom, JDS Neesham, MJ Santner, C de Grandhomme, TG Southee, IS Sodhi, TA Boult.

South Africa Team News & Playing 11

Team News

No injuries have been reported in the South African camp at the time of writing. The selectors are likely to stick with the same team combination despite the narrow loss in the second ODI.

Key Players

Though Amla, du Plessis and Duminy all have the ability to neutralize any bowling attack in the world, we predict the in-form Quinton de Kock and AB de Villiers to score the big runs on Saturday. de Kock has hit a fifty in each of the two games of the series while de Villiers is the leading South African run-scorer at the Westpac with 205 runs from two innings. Imran Tahir has been pretty accurate with his lines and lengths so far and he will be the key in South Africa's bowling lineup. Dwaine Pretorius also impressed in the last game, picking up two scalps while keeping the batsmen tied up.

Recent Form

South Africa could not better their previous best of 12 ODI wins in a row as they fell short by six runs in the last game to end up on the losing side. Though 11 of these victories were achieved back at home, they still are more than formidable on just about any ground in the world. The Proteas have played three ODIs in all at Wellington with wins in their most recently played two.

South Africa Predicted Playing 11

  • HM Amla, Q de Kock (c), F du Plessis, JP Duminy, AB de Villiers (c), DA Miller, D Pretorius, CH Morris, WD Parnell, AL Phehlukwayo, Imran Tahir.

New Zealand vs South Africa Head to Head

New Zealand and South Africa have both won three times each in the last six ODIs they have played against each other. The two teams have met at the Westpac twice in the past and the scoreline is tied at 1-1. South Africa last faced New Zealand at this ground five years ago, beating the hosts by six wickets.

New Zealand vs South Africa 3rd ODI Betting Odds

The betting market is still not showing much belief in New Zealand even though they ended up winners in the last game. They are 2.44 with betfair and 2.30 with bet365. South Africa crushed the hosts in the one-off T20, won the first ODI and came close to winning the next one. The team has just ended its 12-match winning run and is full of confidence. So the tourists begin as favorites to win this third ODI at 1.67 with betfair and 1.61 with bet365. With that said, New Zealand's good record at this ground definitely makes them worth a wager too.

New Zealand vs South Africa 3rd ODI Prediction

The return of Martin Guptill who scored a double-ton at this ground in the 2015 World Cup will surely boost New Zealand's chances in this match. They may have lost to Australia the last time they played an ODI at the Westpac but they do have an impressive record here with 16 wins from 24 matches. South Africa have played only three ODIs at this ground and have won two of them including one against the hosts. So they have done pretty well here themselves.

The first two games of this series saw really tight finishes and a similar contest is expected to be seen in the next three games as well. South Africa have defeated New Zealand 6 times in their previous 9 ODI meetings. So they still have an edge over them which makes us confident enough to predict them to go 2-1 up on Saturday.

Final Verdict: Back South Africa to beat New Zealand in the third ODI at best odds of 1.67 with betfair and 1.61 with bet365.
