NZ vs SA Toss Prediction

Plenty of rain has been forecast on the eve of the match. So even though three of the last four ODIs played at the Edgbaston have been won by the side batting first, the team that wins the toss here may be tempted to bowl first and exploit the conditions and moisture in the wicket.

New Zealand Team News & Playing 11

NZ Team News

New Zealand have no injury worries ahead of their clash against South Africa. They have not felt the need to make any changes to their side since their opening game against Sri Lanka. But given South Africa’s weakness against wrist spin, the Black Caps may be tempted to bring in Ish Sodhi. If they do make the change, they would have to leave out one of Lockie Ferguson or Matt Henry. Martin Guptill and Colin Munro will be opening the batting while Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor will be taking up their usual number three and four positions respectively. Pace bowlers Matt Henry and Trent Boult will probably take the new balls. Mitchell Santner is the lone spinner in the side.

NZ Key Players

Martin Guptill, Colin Munro, Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor have all hit a fifty in this World Cup and they are the pillars of the New Zealand batting. Taylor, the world’s third-best ODI batsman, is currently the team's leading run-scorer in the tournament while Kane Williamson is coming on the back of an unbeaten 79 against Afghanistan. Williamson is averaging close to 70 and the skipper will be expected to lead from the front.

Trent Boult, Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson hold the key to New Zealand's bowling. Ferguson has been their most successful bowler so far with eight wickets in three games at a very impressive economy of 3.88. He notched a four-wicket haul against Afghanistan and (if played) will look to follow that up with another stellar performance. Trent Boult has managed to pick up only three wickets so far but his ability to swing the ball both ways makes him the danger man with the new ball.

NZ Recent Form

New Zealand have won 10 and lost 4 out of the 14 one-day internationals they have played this year, including the last six straight. In the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup, they are placed second on the points table with three wins and a washout from their four matches. They beat Sri Lanka by ten wickets in their opening game at Cardiff, then pipped Bangladesh by two wickets at London before crushing Afghanistan by seven wickets at Taunton. The Kiwis had to share points with India in their previous rain-abandoned match at Nottingham.

New Zealand Predicted Playing 11

South Africa Team News & Playing 11

SA Team News

South Africa are set to receive a big boost in their bowling department as pace bowler Lungi Ngidi has been cleared fit to play and he will likely replace Beuran Hendricks in the playing eleven. The rest of their line-up is expected to remain unchanged for this must-win clash against New Zealand. Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock will be opening the South African batting with Aiden Markram and Faf du Plessis to walk in at numbers three and four respectively. Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi will lead the team's bowling attack.

SA Key Players

Quinton de Kock, Hashim Amla, Faf du Plessis and Rassie van der Dussen are South Africa's biggest hopes as far as batting is concerned. de Kock has been their most impressive batsman so far in this World Cup with 186 runs in five matches which includes a couple of half-centuries. Faf du Plessis is among the top ten ODI batsmen in the world and has scored 100 runs in his previous two innings.

Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi and Imran Tahir will pose the biggest threat to the New Zealand batsmen when it comes to bowling. Tahir, with eight wickets at an economy of 5.54, is currently the leading wicket-taker for South Africa in the tournament. Rabada with his express pace will always be threatening with the new ball in these conditions while the returnee Lungi Ngidi will shoulder the responsibility of providing the early breakthroughs.

SA Recent Form

South Africa have won nine and lost five out of the fourteen one-day internationals they have played this year. They are currently eighth on the CWC 2019 points table with one win, three losses and a washout from five matches. The Proteas made a poor start to their World Cup campaign, suffering defeats in their first three fixtures - against England in the tournament opener by 104 runs, then against Bangladesh by 21 runs before their six-wicket loss to India. South Africa's next game against the West Indies had to be called off due to rain and they won their most recent encounter against Afghanistan by nine wickets in a rain-curtailed clash at Cardiff.

South Africa Predicted Playing 11

Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock (wk), Aiden Markram, Faf du Plessis (c), Rassie van der Dussen, David Miller, Chris Morris, Andile Phehlukwayo, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Imran Tahir

New Zealand vs South Africa Head to Head

New Zealand and South Africa have played 65 completed one-day internationals against each other with the former having won 24 of those and the latter 41.

South Africa have beaten New Zealand four times in their last six ODI meetings, including the six-wicket win in the most recent encounter at Auckland in March 2017.

The two countries have faced each other just once at the Edgbaston in the game's fifty-over format - at the 1999 ICC Cricket World Cup in June. Electing to bat first, the Proteas posted 287/5 on the board before restricting the Kiwis to 213/8 to win the match by 74 runs.

New Zealand vs South Africa Betting Odds

New Zealand are favorites to win this 25th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 at 1.66 with Betway, 1.72 with Bet365 and 1.74 with Betrally. South Africa are the bookmakers' underdogs for this match and they are being offered at a higher price of 2.10 on Betway, Bet365 and Betrally.

🏆 New Zealand vs South Africa Prediction

South Africa are under a lot of pressure and they know it very well that one more defeat could throw them out of contention for the race to semi-finals. New Zealand, on the other hand, are high on confidence and have the momentum on their side. However, they have been facing relatively weaker teams until now and South Africa will be a much stiffer challenge for them. The Proteas have the upper hand in terms of the recent head-to-head count in ODIs with four wins in the last six encounters. With Lungi Ngidi back, South Africa now look a stronger bowling unit and we feel that the scales are tipped slightly more in their favor.
