New Zealand vs India 5th T20 Match Prediction
India can complete a series whitewash against New Zealand that tells nothing of the story of this five-game series. The fifth and final game takes place at the Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui, as New Zealand try to restore some pride. The match takes place on February 2 and the live action starts at 20:00 local time.
India were in a commanding position in this series after two comfortable wins in the first two games, but New Zealand have twice missed chances to hit back since – losing in a super-over in each of the last two games.
Last time out, Colin Munro hit 64 as New Zealand chased 166 to win, but they lost four wickets in the final over for six runs and finished on 165/7. In the super-over, after Rohit Sharma led the way in the third match, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul got the job done this time.

Toss Prediction
New Zealand have won three consecutive tosses, so India – who could look to field first – are overdue winning this one.
Weather Report
As ever in Tauranga, there will be wind whipping across the Bay Oval pitch to contend with but conditions will otherwise be hot and sunny.
Pitch Condition
The Bay Oval wicket is well-balanced, but the location and shape of the stadium means there is a strong wind factor that could dictate proceedings too.

New Zealand Team News & Playing 11
NZ Team News
Tom Bruce slotted in for Colin de Grandhomme as expected last time out, while Daryl Mitchell also made his first appearance of the NZ vs IND series with Kane Williamson missing out with a shoulder injury. The New Zealand captain is hopeful of a return for the final game of the series, but with one eye on the ICC T20 World Cup, Mitchell could be handed another chance and so it may be Ross Taylor who is rested.
NZ Key Players
Kane Williamson: The New Zealand captain was in good batting form, hitting a half-century in the opening game and 95 from 48 balls in the third. He was missed last time out.
Colin Munro: Showed why he is ranked so highly in the ICC World T20i rankings when he hit 64 from 47 balls at the tip of the order last time out.
Mitchell Santner: Took a tidy 1-26 last time out, to move to three wickets in the tournament and post more economical figures. He is third in the world T20i bowling rankings.
NZ Team Form
New Zealand have lost six T20i internationals and three of those have been in a super-over. After a thrilling but unsuccessful end to their five-game series with England, they have suffered four defeats so far in this one – and yet they were in winning positions before being forced in to a super over in each of the last two.
Tim Southee bowled the super over in both matches, but both times he failed to consistently hit the money and New Zealand suffered a narrow defeat on both occasions.
New Zealand Predicted Playing 11
Martin Guptill, Colin Munro, Kane Williamson (c), Tom Bruce, Tim Seifert (wk), Daryl Mitchell, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Scott Kuggeleijn, Blair Tickner, Ish Sodhi
India Team News & Playing 11
IND Team News
India rotated players as expected last time out, as Sanju Samson, Washington Sundar and Navdeep Saini all came into the team. Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami were the players rested. Kuldeep Yadav and Rishabh Pant could also feature in this final match of the series, with KL Rahul among those possibly in line to be rotated out.
IND Key Players
Sanju Samson: Handed an opportunity to open the batting and he did not take it last time out. If he gets another shot, he needs to excel because Sharma and Rahul will not be easy to dislodge if he wants a place at the World Cup.
Virat Kohli: Hit the winning runs in the super over to prove he remains an integral part of this Indian batting line-up and, if he is not rested for the final game, it is a chance to get back among the big scores.
Shardul Thakur: Bowled an excellent final over last time out to force a super over, taking 2-33 to move to six wickets in the series. His 20 runs with the bat also proved valuable.
IND Team Form
While it has taken two super-overs in the last two games, India have nevertheless showed their dominance in this series – victory adding to success against Bangladesh, West Indies and Sri Lanka. KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma have showed good batting form, and it was their hitting in the two super overs – Sharma in the third match and Rahul in the fourth – that proved the difference.
India Predicted Playing 11
Rohit Sharma, Sanju Samson, Virat Kohli (c), Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (wk), Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Navdeep Saini
New Zealand vs India Head to Head
There had not been a tie between these two teams until the last two matches, but India’s dominance in this series means they have now won seven games to New Zealand’s eight overall to redress the balance. Both teams scored 179 in the third game before Sharma did the damage in the super over, while it was 165 apiece in the most recent match and KL Rahul and Virat Kohli batted India to super-over victory.

New Zealand vs India Betting Odds
New Zealand’s odds continue to shorten after falling just short in the last two games. They remain outsiders as India look to seal a series whitewash, however.
NZ Bet365 Odds
- NZ to Win the Match: New Zealand are 2.30 outsiders to beat India with Bet365.
- NZ Top Batsman: Kane Williamson was missed last time out but he is 4.00 with Bet365 to be New Zealand’s top team batsman, while opener Martin Guptill can be backed at the same price. Colin Munro is 4.33, while Tim Seifert is 4.50 after his half-century.
- NZ Top Bowler: Ish Sodhi was in the wickets last time out and he is 5.00 to be New Zealand’s top team bowler with Bet365, as are Mitchell Santner, Blair Tickner and Hamish Bennett. Tim Southee is 4.33 favourite with Bet365 and Scott Kuggeleijn is 4.50.
IND Bet365 Odds
- IND to Win the Match: India are 1.61 favourites to beat New Zealand with Bet365.
- IND Top Batsman: Virat Kohli is 3.50 with Bet365 to be India’s top team batsman with Bet365, while Rohit Sharma is 3.75 and KL Rahul is 4.00. It depends really on who is rested or not, and so Sanju Samson at 4.50, Shreyas Iyer at 5.00 and Rishabh Pant at 6.00 could also be good bets.
- IND Top Bowler: Jasprit Bumrah is 3.40 favourite to be India’s top team bowler, but Shardul Thakur was their star last time out and he is 5.00. Kuldeep Yadav could come into the team and Mohammed Shami could return. They are both 4.50 with Bet365.
🏆 New Zealand vs India Prediction
New Zealand have somehow fallen short from winning positions in each of the last two matches but they have showed they have enough about them to avoid a series whitewash.
