New Zealand Team News & Playing 11

NZ Team News

Mitchell Santner replaced Colin de Grandhomme for the third ODI and New Zealand are likely to make further changes as they look to win back some pride in this series. James Neesham and Todd Astle have been called up to the squad, to replace Doug Bracewell and Ish Sodhi, and both could come straight into the starting XI. Matt Henry is yet to feature too, and could also therefore be called into the side.

NZ Key Players

Ross Taylor was back in top batting form in the third ODI, hitting 93 from 106 balls. He was previously the star man in the series win against Sri Lanka too – scoring 90 and 137 in his final two games, with the latter his 20th ODI century.

Kane Williamson is another to have carried some form over, hitting a half-century in the first game in this series, having scored two against Sri Lanka.

While the batting has let New Zealand down so far in this series, they were excellent against Sri Lanka just a few weeks ago – Martin Guptill and Henry Nicholls both hit centuries in that series too and will want to remind everyone what they are capable of.

Likewise, the bowling has not been up to the same standard. Trent Boult took 2-40 from his ten overs last time out but was fighting a lone cause in the India innings. Lockie Ferguson had 20 in his previous seven games before drawing a blank, but he has also been more expensive of late.

James Neesham’s arrival could make a difference, however. Neesham took six wickets in the series against Sri Lanka and scored 123 runs – including 34 off one over in his 14-ball 47*.

NZ Team Form

This is New Zealand’s first series defeat since losing 3-2 at home to England last year. They had won four of the five completed matches in between, before losing the first three games of this series.

After defeat to England, their next series saw them travel to the UAE to face Pakistan, and Ross Taylor’s 80 and Trent Boult’s hat-trick helped them win the first game by 47 runs.

Taylor’s unbeaten 86 was the top score in the next match too, but they could only post 209/9 and lost by six wickets. The series decider was finely poised after Lockie Ferguson took 5-45 to restrict Pakistan to 278/8, only for rain to force a no result.

At home to Sri Lanka, they got off to the perfect start – Martin Guptill scoring 138 and Taylor another half-century in a total of 371/7 in the first game as they claimed a 45-run win. Taylor scored 90 more in the second game, in a total of 319/7, as New Zealand won by 21 runs and he finished with 137, alongside Henry Nicholls’ 124*, in New Zealand’s 356/4 in the final game. New Zealand won by 115 runs to seal a series whitewash.Batting has been their problem against India, however. They are yet to complete their full 50 overs, after being bowled out for 157, 234 and 243 so far. Not even more big hitting Taylor, who scored 93, could prevent a seven-wicket loss last time out.

New Zealand Predicted Playing 11

Martin Guptill, Colin Munro, Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor, Henry Nicholls, Tom Latham, Mitchell Santner, Todd Astle, James Neesham, Matt Henry, Trent Boult

India Team News & Playing 11

IND Team News

With the series wrapped up, this is India’s chance to take a look at any players still undecided on ahead of the World Cup. Dinesh Karthik and Hardik Pandya will be two of those, having both come in to the team last time out – replacing MS Dhoni and Vijay Shankar respectively. Virat Kohli is being rested for these final two games, meanwhile, meaning Rohit Sharma will captain the team. Teenager Shubman Gill could be the man to replace Kohli. Ambati Rayudu is banned from bowling due to being reported for a suspect action, but that does not affect his place in the team.

IND Key Players

Openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma have continued in good form in this series, with Dhawan scoring 75*, 66 and 28 in his three innings so far, while Sharma has hit 11, 87 and 62. The latter – the top scorer in each of the last two games – has 736 runs in his last 11 ODI innings.

Ambati Rayudu (40*) and Dinesh Karthik (38*) will also want to continue the form they showed last time out, with places in the middle order up for grabs ahead of the World Cup.With the ball, Mohammed Shami has been named man of the match twice already in this series. He took 3-19 from six overs in the first game and claimed three wickets last time out too. Kuldeep Yadav took four in each of the first two games, while Yuzvendra Chahal has six for the tournament – two in each game – having taken 6-42 in the decider against Australia before that.

IND Team Form

India can add another series victory to a run of fine ODI form, which has seen them bounce back well from defeat to England in July.
Since then, India have won the Asia Cup and claimed series wins against West Indies, Australia and now New Zealand. In the former, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan showed the sort of batting form they are replicating now to fire India to the final, where they won by three wickets in dramatic fashion, after earlier bowling Bangladesh out for 222.The series with West Indies was then finely poised at 1-1 after three games despite Virat Kohli’s back-to-back centuries. Sharma turned the series India’s way, however, smashing 162 in a total of 377/5 as India won the fourth match by 224 runs. In the final game, they bowled West Indies out for 104 on their way to a nine-wicket win.

India headed to Australia next, and had to come from behind to beat the hosts. MS Dhoni hit half-centuries in all three games but his first was far too slow as India lost by 34 runs chasing 288. Kohli’s century and Dhoni’s half-century saw them level the series, however, before Yuzvendra Chahal claimed 6-42 as Australia were bowled out for 230 in the decider. Dhoni’s unbeaten 87 led the reply as India won by seven wickets.

Against New Zealand, Dhawan and Sharm have both hit two half-centuries, while Mohammed Shami’s bowling has earned him man of the match awards in two of the three games. Kuldeep Yadav has eight wickets so far, meanwhile, as India have won all three games.

India Predicted Playing 11

Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Shubman Gill, Ambati Rayudu, Dinesh Karthik, Hardik Pandya, Kedar Jadhav, Kuldeep Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mohammed Shami

New Zealand vs India Head to Head

With three wins from three so far in this series, India have now won 54 of their 104 previous games against New Zealand. That is ten more than New Zealand have won in that time, while there has been one tie and five no results.

Prior to this series, India came from behind to win a three-game series 2-1. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were the heroes in a thrilling decider. They both hit centuries and shared a 230-run partnership as India posted 337/6. In reply, New Zealand fell just six runs short.

In this series, Sharma and Kohli both hit half-centuries in the third match as India claimed their series win, but it has been the bowlers who have impressed most. New Zealand were dismissed for 157 in the first game, 234 in the second and 243 in the third with Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami and Yuzvendra Chahal all in the wickets.

Having wrapped up a series win, India are 1.66 to make it four wins from four with Bet365, while Betfair are offering 1.62. New Zealand are 2.25 with the latter to win.

India’s opening pair are in good form with the bat, and they are 1.72 with Bet365 to post the highest opening partnership. Individually, Rohit Sharma is 3.00 to be their top batsman – as he has been in the last two games – and Shikhar Dhawan is 3.75.

Ross Taylor at least re-found form last time out, however. He is 5.00 with Bet365 to be their top batsman again, having been in fine batting form in the 50-over game.

🏆 New Zealand vs India Prediction

With India’s batsmen in encouraging form and their bowlers comfortably on top, it is hard to see how New Zealand can prevent a fourth Indian win.
