NZ vs IND Betting Tips

  • India need to hit back to avoid a series defeat after New Zealand won a high-scoring opening game in Hamilton.
  • After India won all five matches in the T20i series - as New Zealand blew a number of winning positions - the hosts hit back thanks to Ross Taylor-s unbeaten century last time out.
  • In'dia scored 347/4 from their 50 overs, led by Shreyas Iyer-s 103 from 107 balls. In reply, Taylor hit 109* from 84 balls and New Zealand claimed a four-wicket win with 11 balls to spare.

New Zealand vs India 2nd ODI Match Prediction

Hosts New Zealand will look to wrap up a series victory with a game to spare when they take on India in the second match of their three-game ODI series. The match takes place at Eden Park, Auckland, on February 8 and the live action starts at 15:00 local time.

India won all five T20i matches to kick off this tour and posted 347/4 in their first ODI innings last time out – led by Shreyas Iyer’s 103 from 107 balls. New Zealand finally saw a winning position out, however, as Ross Taylor hit 109* from 84 balls in a four-wicket win.

It was New Zealand’s first ODI since losing in last summer’s World Cup final, and followed their victory against India in the semi-finals of that tournament. India will now have to come from behind to win an ODI series for the third consecutive time – after similar stories against West Indies and Australia – if they are to maintain their post-World Cup winning form.

Toss Prediction

New Zealand elected to field first last time out and India could opt to do the same in this match.

Weather Report

Auckland will be on the cooler side but crucially it should be clear and dry for most of the day, albeit with a few clouds about.

Pitch Condition

Eden Park is generally an excellent batting wicket, with a good pace to the pitch and short boundaries offering further assistance.

New Zealand Team News & Playing 11

NZ Team News

Kane Williamson missed the first game of this series and is expected to miss the second too. The Black Caps could stick with the same batting line-up after their highest successful chase, but Scott Kuggeleijn and Kyle Jamieson are bowling options to consider as they look to be tighter than before. It would be an ODI debut for Jamieson if he plays.

NZ Key Players

Ross Taylor: Proved his enduring class last time out when he hit ten fours and four sixes on his way to a match-winning, unbeaten century. It was his 21st ODI century, and he also has 50 50s to his name in the format.

Henry Nicholls: Followed up his good List A batting form with Canterbury by scoring 78 in the first match of this series. It means his last four one-day innings have brought scores of 120, 62, 55 and 78.

Tom Latham: Took over the captaincy in Kane Williamson’s absence and had a big impact last time out, scoring 69 from 48 balls in a big partnership with Ross Taylor. It was his 16th ODI half-century and he has passed 100 on four occasions too.

NZ Team Form

This series is New Zealand’s first set of ODI matches since the World Cup final at Lord’s, where they lost in a super-over to England. They immediately set about rebuilding, with Ross Taylor’s unbeaten century in a total of 348/6 helping them to a four-wicket win – their highest ever successful chase. Henry Nicholls (78) and Tom Latham (69) also played key roles in that chase.

New Zealand Predicted Playing 11

Martin Guptill, Henry Nicholls, Tom Blundell, Ross Taylor, Tom Latham (c, wk), Colin de Grandhomme, Mitchell Santner, Kyle Jamieson, Tim Southee, Scott Kuggeleijn, Ish Sodhi

NZ vs IND Dream11 Prediction

Wicket-keeper

KL Rahul’s superb form with the bat continued last time out and he is a definite must-pick, even at ten credits. Tom Latham proved his worth for New Zealand, meanwhile, and both would be solid picks if they continue in the same vein this time out.

Batsmen

Virat Kohli is the world’s foremost ODI batsman and even at 11 credits you simply have to make room for him. Ross Taylor’s record, which he added another match-winning century too last time out, also speaks for itself and he too must be included, even at 10.5 credits. To balance those costs, India’s new opening pair Mayank Agarwal and Prithvi Shaw are 8.5 and eight credits respectively, while New Zealand opener – and half-centurion last time out – Henry Nicholls is 8.5 credits. It is tough to overlook Shreyas Iyer after his hundred, but it may be necessary.

All-rounders

Onto the all-rounders and neither Jimmy Neesham nor Ravindra Jadeja stood out last time out. Mitchell Santner is only 8.5 credits, however, and so is Colin de Grandhomme. Either one of those two would be a good fit.

Bowlers

Onto the bowlers and Mohammed Shami is nine credits and Jasprit Bumrah is 9.5. You may only be able to afford one, however, and the latter remains the world’s top ODI bowler. Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal are both 8.5 credits and either could be worth picking, depending who plays, but Tim Southee is also worth considering at the same price. At eight credits, again it is gambling on selection but Scott Kuggeleijn could return or Kyle Jamieson could make his ODI debut. Alternatively, Navdeep Saini and Shardul Thakur are also that price.

Captain/Vice-captain

Virat Kohli is the world’s leading ODI batsman and it is hard to ignore the India captain for Dream 11 captain too. KL Rahul is in superb form, meanwhile, and he too looks a top pick – though that would mean overlooking Ross Taylor and Tom Latham too.

India Team News & Playing 11

IND Team News

With Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma out injured, Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal made their NZ vs IND ODI debuts for India last time out as they opened the batting together. It meant KL Rahul in the middle order, where his superb batting form continued, and the same top five could be retained. Yuzvnednra Chahal, Manish Pandey and Navdeep Saini are among the options if India want to change things up.

IND Key Players

KL Rahul: In supreme batting form of late, which continued when he thumped 88* from 64 balls last time out. He now averages 46.79 in ODI cricket, from 30 matches, with that his seventh half-century. He also has three centuries to his name.

Virat Kohli: It says it all that his 58th ODI half-century last time out actually diminished his batting average in the format. He also has 43 ODI centuries to his name and has scored 11,843 runs at an average of 59.81.

Jasprit Bumrah: Still the number-one ranked bowler in ODI cricket, the paceman has taken 104 wickets in 62 ODI matches and maintains a brilliant economy rate too.

IND Team Form

India, unlike New Zealand, have had plenty of ODI matches since the World Cup. They have had to come from behind to win their last two series, however, against West Indies and Australia and they will need to do the same if they are to win this one too.

Shreyas Iyer scored 103 at Seddon Park, while Virat Kohli (51) and KL Rahul (88*) also contributed to a score of 347/4 last time out, but they were unable to defend it despite some late wickets as they fell to a four-wicket loss.

India Predicted Playing 11

Prithvi Shaw, Mayan Agarwal, Virat Kohli (c), Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Kedar Jadhav, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Navdeep Saini, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah

Ross Taylor’s unbeaten century made the difference last time out, after he had also hit 74 in that semi-final – New Zealand posting 239/8 and bowling India out for 221 in reply.
