NZ vs ENG Betting Tips

  • Tim Southee took 4-88 the last time England played a Test against New Zealand at this venue. The captain is our tip for the home side’s top wicket taker in this match.
  • Harry Brook was England’s player of the series during the tour of Pakistan and the middle-order batter is an excellent counter-attacking player against tiring bowlers. He is our pick for England’s highest run scorer in this Test.
  • Jimmy Anderson has taken 675 Test wickets with 74 coming against New Zealand. He is well worth backing as England’s top wicket taker in this game.

Our Prediction

England are favorites to win

NZ vs ENG 1st Test Match Prediction & Betting Tips

New Zealand will take on England at the Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui. This day-night Test gets underway at 14:00 local time on Thursday 16th February.

New Zealand

Ahead of this Test, tall pace bowler Kyle Jamieson was ruled out of the series and for the next few months of cricket with a stress fracture to his back. Matt Henry is unavailable as he is on paternity leave and Trent Boult has not been selected as he know longer holds a central contract. This will be Tim Southee’s first home Test as skipper.

NZ Team Batting

With the bowling attack lacking some of its top players, there will be greater pressure on New Zealand’s batters in this opening Test of the series. Former captain, Kane Williamson, is a very reliable run-scorer and Devon Conway impressed on the white-ball tour of India earlier this year.

NZ Team Bowling

Skipper Tim Southee will lead the bowling attack and will expect to get some movement through the air and off the pitch in Mount Maunganui. We expect left-armer Neil Wagner to be used in short spells where he will look to unsettle England’s batters with short pitched and hostile bowling.

NZ Team Form

New Zealand have not won any of their last six Tests with their last victory in this format coming against South Africa in Christchurch last February.

After a 3-0 whitewash victory away in Pakistan during December, England will come into this series full of confidence. Stuart Broad missed the tour of Pakistan due to the birth of his first child but he is expected to come back into the team for this First Test.

ENG Team Batting

Since Ben Stokes and Brendan McCullum took over in the leadership group of English Test cricket, the batting has been marked by high run-rates and dominating bowling attacks. Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett will continue as openers with OIlie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook and Ben Stokes a formidable middle-order.

ENG Team Bowling

40 year old Jimmy Anderson will once again lead England’s bowling attack on a tour of New Zealand. He was very impressive once again on the tour of Pakistan and will find the conditions far more swing and seam friendly on this trip. Left-armer Jack Leach will be the lead spinner for Engalnd.

ENG Team Form

England have won nine of their last 10 Test matches and beat New Zealand 3-0 in a home series during June 2022.

NZ vs ENG, Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui Pitch Report

The match will be played at the Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui. Generally it is the pace bowlers who have the most joy on this pitch. We expect a par first innings total of around 400.

🏆 New Zealand vs England Prediction

England’s turnaround under their new leadership team has been extraordinary and they will look to attack New Zealand with both the bat and ball from the start of this Test series. Without some of their best bowlers, New Zealand’s attack may struggle to keep England’s batters run-rate down but we do expect the likes of Williamson, Conway and Latham to bat with their usual expertise. We are predicting an entertaining game and are backing England to get the win.
