The top three - Jeet Raval, Tom Latham and Kane Williamson - all cracked big centuries in the first test at Hamilton. Williamson remained unbeaten after his double ton. The skipper is currently ranked second in the ICC test batting rankings and he will once again be the key man for his team with the bat. Ross Taylor has two hundreds and eight fifties at this ground in tests. He was dismissed cheaply last time but he is expected to bounce back with a big knock. Trent Boult, Tim Southee and Neil Wagner caused plenty of headaches for the Bangladeshi batsmen and the pace trio is likely to hurt the visitors again. Wagner was the most impressive with a match-haul of seven wickets and his ability to bowl excellent bouncers makes him the danger man on this surface. Southee and Boult, who took a five-fer in the second innings, will look to provide the early breakthroughs with the new ball.

Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar and Mahmudullah all had good hits in the first match of NZ vs BAN test series and Bangladesh will be hoping that they continue to deliver with the bat. Tamim seems to be in good form with scores of 126 and 74 in the respective innings and it will be crucial for the visitors that he makes a sizeable contribution at the top of the order. Bangladesh will also have high hopes on Mominul Haque who has a half-century in the only test he has played at the Basin Reserve. The Bangladeshi bowlers were made to toil very hard by the Kiwi batsmen at Hamilton. Soumya Sarkar and Mehidy Hasan took a couple of wickets last time but the team will need their new-ball pair of Ebadat Hossain and Abu Jayed to land a few early blows on the hosts. Mustafizur Rahman could be brought into the side at the expense of Mehidy Hasan to bolster the pace attack.

New Zealand and Bangladesh have now played 14 test matches against each other. While the hosts have won 11 of those, the rest have all ended in stalemates.
New Zealand have beaten Bangladesh in all the three tests they have played against them at the Basin Reserve. The Kiwis won the first of those encounters in December 2001 by an innings and 74 runs before winning the second by an innings and 137 runs in January 2008. The last time these two countries faced each other at this ground in a test match was in January 2017 with the hosts emerging victorious by seven wickets.
Matches Played: 14; New Zealand Won: 11; Bangladesh Won: 0; Draw: 3
New Zealand are favorites to win the second test at odds of 1.60 on Betway, 1.61 on Bet365 and 1.57 on Betrally. Bangladesh, by contrast, are as high as 19 on Betway, 17 on Bet365 and 14.50 on Betrally. A drawn game stands at 2.40, 2.62 and 2.50 with the respective bookmakers.
Bangladesh will be demoralized after their drubbing in the series opener but they will take heart from their much improved batting performance in the second innings. They have been outclassed by the hosts in all departments and they don't look like winning even a single game on this tour. New Zealand have simply been too hot for the visitors in these conditions and their bowlers are causing all sorts of problems for their batsmen. Some rain has been forecast for this game but we feel there should still be sufficient time for New Zealand to win this match and clinch their fifth consecutive test series win.
