Northamptonshire are favorites to win
Northamptonshire Steelbacks and Derbyshire Falcons face each other at the County Ground, Northampton, in the North Group of the 2019 Vitality Blast. The match takes place on August 2 and the live action begins at 19:00 local time.
Both teams are struggling at the wrong end of the table and are in need of a win – though Northants got their first of the competition in their most recent match. The Steelbacks will be keen to kick on from that now.
Derbyshire Falcons’ only win was in their first game. They come into this match in poor form and their slim hopes of a top-four finish will be over if they fail to win this one.

Northamptonshire Steelbacks lost the toss but won last time out, after being asked to bat first. At home again, they could elect to bat first if they are more successful at the toss.
While there could be some cloud overhead, and a lot of humidity, there is very little chance of rain. The conditions might suit swing bowling.
Overhead conditions could have more of a bearing on this match than the pitch, which has had time to recover after last week’s rain.

Ben Curran replaced Charlie Thurston at the top of the order against Birmingham but the opening spot could still be up for grabs with neither taking their opportunity so far.
Rob Keogh: Scored an unbeaten 59 in the win against Birmingham Bears to get back into form, his second decent knock of the tournament so far having been unbeaten on 30 against Durham too.
Dwaine Pretorius: Perhaps underused for South Africa at the World Cup, he picked up five wickets in his final two games. For Northants, he has two wickets so far and has shown his capabilities with the bat too.
Faheem Ashraf: Took 2-26 in the win against Birmingham last time out to get back to the sort of form he had showed for Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League – a tournament which included his best figures of 6/19.
Northants got their first win of the campaign in their most recently completed match, posting 155/6 against Birmingham Bears and keeping the visitors to 111/8 from 16 overs – a 21-run DLS win.It ended a run of back-to-back defeats, after they fell seven runs short of Durham’s 148/4 in their first game and then lost by seven wickets to Notts Outlaws after posting 152/8 in their second.

Veteran all-rounder Darren Stevens, a leading player in England’s domestic T20 competition since its inception, returned last time out, in place of Logan van Beek. It added an extra batting option to the team and resulted in an improved all-round performance – albeit a losing cause again. Nevertheless, the signs were positive and the team could be unchanged.
Darren Stevens: Ended his long association with Kent to move to Derbyshire for the T20 and showed signs of what he was sought after with a quick-fire 26 not out last time out. He can also provide some useful overs with the ball, and at 43 still boasts a higher batting average than his bowling in T20 cricket.
Leus du Plooy: Four innings in the competition this season have produced scores of 30, 70, 27 and 52* as he leads the Derbyshire Falcons’ batting from the middle order.
Billy Godleman: Led the way in Derbyshire’s only win so far, anchoring their innings against Yorkshire with an unbeaten 70 that included four sixes. He will want to get back to that form, having failed to hit such heights since.
Derbyshire Falcons have lost their last three completed matches, failing to build on beating Yorkshire in their first match. After chasing 165 to win by five wickets in the final over first up, they left themselves too much to do next up after conceding 205/5 against Birmingham and 198/5 against Notts.
They batted first last time out, against Worcestershire, and posted 156/4 but fell to a two-wicket defeat with one over to spare.

Derbyshire Falcons have only won three of their ten previous Vitality Blast matches against Northamptonshire, with Northants winning the other seven. Last year, however, they each won one game apiece.
The Steelbacks fell 31 runs short of Derbyshire’s 211/2 – after Calum MacLeod’s century – in their last meeting at Northampton. The Falcons set 177/6, meanwhile, in the reverse fixture but Josh Cobb hammered 73 not out from 37 balls to lead Northants to a seven-wicket win.
