Netherlands Women will take on Ireland Women at the VRA Ground, Amstelveen. The first WODI starts at 11:00 local time on Monday 22nd August.

Netherlands Women will take part in their first WODI since 2011 when they take the field against Ireland Women in this match. The nation were granted ODI status only three months ago and it will be very interesting to see how they get on in home conditions. Babette de Leede, cousin of Netherlands Men’s all-rounder Bas de Leede, will captain the side in this series. The keeper-batter has hit two half-centuries in WIT20s. Off-spinner Eva Lynch should get some turn off the surface and will keep the runs down as well as picking up wickets.

Although Ireland Women have played far more WODIs than Netherlands Women, they were well beaten by South Africa Women across three games in June. South Africa Women won all three matches, beating Ireland Women by 189 runs and nine wickets twice. Arlene Kelly and Georgina Dempsey were the top bowlers for Ireand against a very talented South Africa side and picked up the wickets of some of the world’s best batters in the women’s game. Gaby Lewis captained the side and top scored in two of the three matches.

The match will be played at the VRA Ground, Amstelveen. The surface will be quite slow although should be consistent. We expect a par score of over 200 in this opening WODI.
