Namibia are favorites to win
After big wins in the first two matches of this four-game T20i series, hosts Namibia can wrap up a series win when they face Botswana in the third match at Windhoek’s United Ground. The game takes place on August 22 and the live action begins at 14:00.
Craig Williams hit an unbeaten 68 from 31 balls on his T20i debut in the first game of the series, as Namibia posted 193/4 and won by 93 runs, before Jean-Pierre Kotze’s 101* on debut last time out helped them to 240/3 and a 124-run win.
Botswana have not been bowled out in either innings, they have just been well short of where they would have needed to be – a combination of economical bowling and a gulf in quality. Namibia will expect to continue their preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup qualifier with another big win.

Botswana have won the toss in both matches so far and elected to field first on both occasions. Namibia, gearing up for the ICC T20 World Cup qualifier, are due to win the toss this time and they may elect to field first in order to vary their preparations.
Clear skies, sun, zero chance of rain and temperatures up to 24 degrees Celsius should make Thursday’s conditions perfect for cricket in Windhoek.
With all matches in this series being played at the United Ground, the pitch has – for the first two T20 matches – been good for the hosts to bat on. Particularly in the last match, very few wickets fell.

Namibia made just one change last time out – Jean-Pierre Kotze making his T20i debut and promptly hitting a century. JJ Smit and Lohan Louwrens are among the other players yet to feature as they look to rotate their options and asses their squad.
Jean-Pierre Kotze: Marked his T20 international debut in style, with an unbeaten 101 from 43 balls against Botswana last time out. That included seven fours and nine sixes.
Gerhard Erasmus: The Namibian captain for the last two games, he took 2-16 in the first game of the series and then hit 56 last time out.
Niko Davin: Smashed a rapid 37 from 19 balls when these teams last met before this series and has started the series in good batting form too. He has scored 39 and 54 at a strike rate of 166.07 in total.
Namibia qualified for the global ICC T20 World Cup qualifier finals. They won all three completed games in Kampala and have carried that form into this series. The batting in both games has been outstanding and has been backed by economical bowling.
Stephen Baard, Niko Davin, Gerhard Erasmus (c), Jean-Pierre Kotze, Lohan Louwrens, Zane Green (wk), Zhivago Groenewald, Jan Frylinck, Pikky Ya France, Tangeni Lungameni, Ben Shikongo
Adithiya Rangaswamy came into the team last time out and picked up a wicket too but he only bowled one over. Veteran James Moses is among the players yet to feature in the T20i leg of this tour.
Karabo Motlhanka: The captain and wicket-keeper-batsman scored 59 from 55 balls in the second T20i – the run rate was too low but the half-century at least showed what he is capable of.
Dhruv Maisuria: Took 3-23 in the first match of the series and then weighed in with 1-30 with his leg-break bowling. The 21-year-old looks set got a bright future.
James Morris: Man of the match when these two met in November in a non-T20i fixture, the 54-year-old will be keen for one more chance to prove there is life in the old dog yet.
Botswana reached the African regional finals in the ICC T20 World Cup qualifier with six wins in the first group stage, all played at home. In the finals, however, they lost all three completed matches and have lost both games in this series too. They have simply had no answer to Namibia’s big hitting.
Tharindu Perera, Karabo Motlhanka (c, wk), Reginald Nehonde, Hemal Pragji, Valentine Mbazo, Phemelo Silas, James Morris, Dhruv Maisuria, Dimpho Kegasitswe, Ameer Saiyed, Mmoloki Mooketsi
Since all associate members’ T20 internationals were given full T20i status, Namibia have won all three matches they have played against Botswana. They beat them comfortably in the Regional Finals of the T20 World Cup qualifier and then opened this series with two dominant wins too. In those matches, Namibia have racked up big totals and Botswana have never looked capable of matching the required run rate.
Matches Played | NAM Won | BW Won | Tie | Draw |
---|---|---|---|---|
3 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Namibia are comfortably the bigger team in this series and can prove their dominance with a third T20 win in a row.
Final Verdict: Back Namibia to beat Botswana.
