Read on for team previews, betting tips, latest odds and match prediction for Multan Sultans vs Quetta Gladiators, PSL 2019.
Tom Moores slotted in for out-of-form Laurie Evans last time out, in the only change from Multan Sultans’ win against Islamabad United. Evans has been short of runs in the PSL 2019, and can not force his way into the opening slots given the form of Umar Siddiq and James Vince.
Johnson Charles hit his second half-century in four appearances in this year’s Pakistan Super League when he scored 57 from 31 balls against Peshawar Zalmi last time out. He also hit his other half-century against Zalmi too.
James Vince has also been in good form, after helping Sydney Sixers to the BBL semi-finals before heading to the UAE for this tournament. Vince has scored 181 runs so far. Shoaib Malik has two half-centuries to his name, meanwhile and XXX runs in total and Umar Siddiq has scored 137 at the top of the order, including one half-century, to average 34.25 so far.
With the ball, Junaid Khan has eight wickets to his name, while Shahid Afridi’s leg-spin has contributed six wickets – one more than all-rounder Dan Christian, fresh from winning the Big Bash League, has managed. Christian and Junaid were both expensive last time out, however.
Multan Sultans have won two of their seven matches so far. They ended a three-match losing streak with victory against Islamabad United but lost to Peshawar Zalmi last time out.
The losing streak started the last time they met Quetta Gladiators – failing to defend 160/9 as they lost by eight wickets with ten balls to spare. Next, they posted 200/6 against Multan Sultans as James Vince smashed 84 from 41 balls, but again they fell short bowling – losing by six wickets off the final ball.
Their fourth defeat in five games arrived as they were bowled out for 145 against Peshawar Zalmi and lost in the final over by five wickets, but they did at least beat Islamabad. They bowled the defending champions out for 121 to claim a much-needed six-wicket win.
Last time out, however, a half-century for Johnson Charles in a total of 172/5 was not enough against Peshawar Zalmi – the Sultans losing by seven wickets with four balls to spare.

Harry Gurney slotted into the pace attack last time out, alongside T20 debutant Mohammad Hasnain. The latter’s raw pace earned positive reviews on his first appearance. Anwar Ali could return this time, while Quetta fans are yet to see Dwayne Bravo or Sunil Narine – the latter is fighting to recover from a finger injury to play some part in this year’s tournament.
Quetta’s batsmen will hope to get back to their best form, with Umar Akmal and Shane Watson both among the top scorers in the competition so far.
Both have hit two half-centuries from their first six matches, with Akmal scoring 201 runs in total and Watson just eight runs behind – both with strike rates around the 135 mark.
Sarfraz Ahmed has 133 runs from four innings, meanwhile, and Rilee Rossouw – who top-scored when these teams last met with an unbeaten 67 – has 165 runs. The latter came into this tournament on the back of topping the run-scoring charts at the Bangladesh Premier League.
Sohail Tanvir has led the bowling, meanwhile. He has nine wickets so far and, just as impressively, an economy rate of 6.21 runs per over.
Harry Gurney took a wicket on his first appearance last time out, having previously helped bowl Melbourne Renegades to Big Bash League success, while Mohammad Nawaz has taken six wickets from six matches and taken four catches too.
Quetta Gladiators kicked off with four straight wins, including beating Multan Sultans by eight wickets when they last met, but they have lost their last two.
Sarfraz Ahmed’s unbeaten half-century led them to a last-ball win – scoring 148/7 to beat Lahore Qalandars by three wickets – in their most recent success.
Umar Akmal top-scored with 55 from 37 balls in a total of 186/5 against Karachi Kings in their next match, but they had no answer to Colin Ingram’s superb unbeaten century as they fell to a six-wicket defeat with eight balls remaining.
They then fell to 106 all out against Lahore Qalandars last time out, losing by eight wickets with 3.3 overs to spare.

Quetta Gladiators beat Multan Sultans by eight wickets earlier this season, while they each won one game apiece in the Sultans’ debut season last year.
This season’s match saw Shane Watson (61) and Rilee Rossouw (67*) lead the Gladiators to victory, chasing 161 to win with nine balls to spare.
Quetta also won the most recent match last season, despite Shoaib Malik hitting an unbeaten 65 down the order in a total of 152/5, and Umar Gul claiming a stunning 6-24 in the reply. The Gladiators eventually won by two wickets off the penultimate ball.
Sohail Tanvir (3-14), Imran Tahir (3-19) and Junaid Khan (2-9) had led the bowling in their previous meeting, helping the Sultans bowl Quetta out for just 102 before Kumar Sangakkara hit an unbeaten half-century in a nine-wicket win.
While they have lost their last two matches, Quetta Gladiators are favourites to bounce back – Bet365 are offering 1.72 on a Gladiators win, while Betway have priced them at 1.70 to win and Multan Sultans at 2.05.
Quetta’s top-order batsmen are going to key, with Shane Watson 3.40 to top score for the Gladiators with Bet365, while Rilee Rossouw is 4.50 and Umar Akmal can be backed at 5.00.
That said, runs have not been in short supply for Multan Sultans either – James Vince is 4.00 to top score for them, while Johnson Charles is in good form and can be backed at 4.50. Bet365 are also offering 1.83 on there being more than 315.5 runs in the match.
Sohail Tanvir has been in wicket-taking form, meanwhile. He is 4.50 be Quetta Gladiators top bowler.
Multan Sultans’ bowling has let them down too often - failing to defend some big totals. If Quetta's batsmen fire, there could be trouble.
