Multan Sultans vs Peshawar Zalmi 1st SF Match Prediction, PSL 2020
Group winners Multan Sultans take on fourth-placed Peshawar Zalmi in the first semi-final of this slightly reduced 2020 Pakistan Super League. A rejig of the play-off format means the PSL now has straight semi-finals rather than the original play-off structure, and the first game takes place at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, on March 17. The live action starts at 14:00 local time.
The Sultans won six of their eight group games to comfortably finish top of the table – their second defeat was after they had already secured top spot. They did that by beating Peshawar Zalmi in their most recent meeting – Sohail Tanvir’s 3-26 proving vital as they won by just three runs, defending 154/6.
That result left Peshawar Zalmi – who won four and lost five of their completed group games – relying on other results to go through. Their net run rate proved sufficient in the end, however, as they just about claimed the fourth semi-final spot.

Multan Sultans Team News & Playing 11
MS Team News
Rohail Nazir and Ravi Bopara have come into the team following the early departures of James Vince and Rilee Rossouw due to the coronavirus pandemic. After a couple of changes for their final PSL 2020 group game, they may revert to the team which beat Peshawar Zalmi when they last met.
MS Key Players
Shan Masood: With Rilee Rossouw having left early, the captain will be the man expected to provide runs and he has scored 253 of them so far.
Sohail Tanvir: Bowled brilliantly when these teams last met, recording figures of 3-26 to move past 350 wickets in T20 cricket.
Imran Tahir: The veteran leggie has starred in multiple T20 tournaments recently and this one has been no different – he has ten wickets so far, like Tanvir.
MS Team Form
Multan Sultans’ winning streak ended in their most recent game – though it had no bearing on their table-topping finish. The Sultans secured top spot when Sohail Tanvir bowled them to victory against Peshawar Zalmi, but they could not defend 186/6 after Khushdil Shah’s 70* from 29 balls last time out. Lahore Qalandars won by nine wickets with seven balls to spare – only Usman Qadir took a wicket as the Sultans rotated their bowling attack.
Multan Sultans Predicted Playing 11
Rohail Nazir, Zeeshan Ashraf (wk), Moeen Ali, Shan Masood (c), Ravi Bopara, Khushdil Shah, Shahid Afridi, Sohail Tanvir, Ali Shafiq, Imran Tahir, Mohammad Irfan
Peshawar Zalmi Team News & Playing 11
PSZ Team News
Peshawar Zalmi have been hit particularly hard by the early withdrawal of several players due to coronavirus fears. Tom Banton, Carlos Brathwaite, Liam Dawson, Liam Livingstone and Lewis Gregory all headed home, leaving them without an overseas player last time out. Wahab Riaz moved up to number three with the bat, while Mohammad Amir Khan, Adil Amin, Hammad Azam and Umar Amin all came into the team too, while Imam-ul-Haq returned and hit a half-century. They have little option but to field a similar team this time.
PSZ Key Players
Kamran Akmal: With none of the firepower provided by their overseas stars, Zalmi need their opener back to the form he showed at the start of the tournament, which he opened with scores of 43 and 101.
Shoaib Malik: Returned to top T20 form recently, having scored 68, 54, 62 and 30 in his last three innings. He is now just 108 runs short of 10,000 in his T20 career.
Wahab Riaz: A key bowler, and took 1-20 when these teams last met to move to 11 in the tournament so far, as well as now a pinch-hitting stand-in with the bat.
PSZ Team Form
Peshawar Zalmi had won two rain-affected matches against Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United but lost to Lahore Qalandars and then suffered a three-run defeat to Multan Sultans in their most recent game. After their overseas stars flew home, Zalmi restricted the league leaders to 154/6 as Rahat Ali took 3-24. In reply, Imam-ul-Haq hit a half-century but they fell just short – finishing on 151/8.

Multan Sultans vs Peshawar Zalmi Prediction
Multan Sultans were the top team in the group and compared to Zalmi, they have not been quite as badly affected by the withdrawal of overseas players due to coronavirus fears.
Back Multan Sultans to beat Peshawar Zalmi at 1.72 with Bet365.
Kamran Akmal is key with the bat for Peshawar Zalmi, even if his form earlier in the tournament has not continued. For Multan Sultans, Zeeshan Ashraf is also at the top of the order – both could be useful picks.
Shan Masood’s importance to the Sultans has ramped up without Rilee Rossouw and James Vince, while Khushdil Shah found some explosive batting form last time out too. For Peshawar Zalmi, Haider Ali is nine credits and Imam-ul-Haq – back at the top of the order – looks good value at 8.5 credits.
Most of the listed all-rounders have left early, leaving a choice of Moeen Ali, Shoaib Malik and Shahid Afridi. Two of those three – with Malik in top form and Afridi bowling more prominently than the other two – is sufficient.
That leaves three bowling spaces, and Sohail Tanvir’s record in this fixture this season shows why he demands selection. Wahab Riaz could be a better pick than Imran Tahir, despite both taking wickets, given the former pushed up the batting order last time out, which leaves enough for Rahat Ali – who took three wickets last time out – to complete the line-up.
Sohail Tanvir has taken seven wickets in two matches against Zalmi this season to prove why he should be considered for captain. Wahab Riaz is an option for vice-captain, especially if he bats at three again, while Shoaib Malik is in top batting form.
