Bangla Tigers are favorites to win
Morrisville Samp Army will take on Bangla Tigers at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. Match 3 of the 2022 Abu Dhabi T10 gets underway at 16:00 local time on Thursday 24th November.
As one of two new teams in the tournament this year, Morrisville Samp Army come into this campaign under coach Lance Klusener and with South African David Miller as their icon player. They have assembled a squad full of experienced white ball players.
In David Miller and Moeen Ali, Morrisville Samp Army have two of the cleanest strikers of a ball in world cricket in their ranks although Moeen will be unavailable for this match. Shimron Hetmyer, who was left out of West Indies’ T20 World Cup squad after missing a flight, is another big hitter to look out for in the team in this game.
Genuine pace will come from South Africa’s Anrich Nortje and West Indian Sheldon Cottrell with another left-arm quick, George Garton, also capable of picking up key wickets. Spinners and pace-off options will also be crucial in this game and Colin de Grandhomme will play a part.
This is Morrisville Samp Army’s first game in the Abu Dhabi T10 League.
After finishing in fourth place in the 2021 competition, Bangla Tigers got their 2022 campaign underway with a 19 run win over newcomers New York Strikers. The Tigers posted 131-5 from their 10 overs before restricting the Strikers to 112-8.
Opener Evin Lewis got the tournament up and running with a half-century. He was comfortable with the pace and bounce in the pitch and hit seven sixes on his way to 58 runs from only 22 balls. Colin Munro hit five boundaries and both players will be dangerous again in this match.
Four of the six bowlers used by Bangla Tigers on Wednesday picked up wickets with only England’s Jake Ball and UAE’s Umair Ali going wicketless. Skipper Shakib Al Hasan, showed that slow bowling can also be useful on this pitch and returned figures of 1-7 from two overs.
Bangla Tigers have won one, lost one and tied one of their last three matches.
The match will be played at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. The hardness of the wicket makes for a quick surface and many opportunities for batters to clear the boundaries. A par score will be around 125.
