Melbourne Stars have a tendency to win the bat flip and field first when they do. The pitch at Moe is not well known, but chasing may be preferable to setting a target as a result.

Melbourne Stars Team News & Playing 11

MLS Team News

Peter Handscomb, Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell and Adam Zampa are all available again after Australia’s ODI series with India, while Scott Boland is back from playing for the Cricket Australia XI against the Sri Lankan tourists. Handscomb’s availability, after being dropped from the test squad, is a bonus.

Maxwell took over the captaincy from Nic Maddinson last time out, but the latter retained his place in the starting line-up. With the other bowlers all in the wickets as the ODI stars returned, Boland could replace teenage newcomer Tom O’Connell in the only change from the derby win.

MLS Key Players

Marcus Stoinis underlined his importance to the Melbourne Stars last time out, when he took 3-19 with the ball and hit an unbeaten 70 in the win against the Melbourne Renegades. He starred in the last derby too, before joining the Australian ODI squad, and now has seven wickets and 182 runs in his last three Big Bash appearances.

Glenn Maxwell scored runs in the middle order before his departure for the ODI squad – including an unbeaten 41 against Sydney Thunder – and will want to get back on track after scoring 85 from three innings in the one-dayers.

Peter Handscomb, meanwhile, hit two half-centuries for Australia and – prior to his return for the Victoria derby, had only played one Big Bash match and scored 70 runs in it, against Sydney Sixers.

In their absence, Ben Dunk has led the Stars’ batting, meanwhile, scoring 102 runs in the three games the big names missed. Dwayne Bravo contributed runs and wickets, meanwhile – as he has done all season. His 1-25 against the Renegades saw him end the innings with his tenth of this year’s tournament. Liam Plunkett took 2-21, meanwhile, showing improved control with his bowling to move to eight wickets in five games having replaced Bangladesh-bound Sandeep Lamichhane as the Stars’ second overseas player.

Adam Zampa’s return is a boost too – he took 2-29 last time out, and now has seven Big Bash wickets this season.

MLS Team Form

Melbourne Stars lost all three matches they played without their international quartet but got back to winning ways when they returned for the Victoria derby last time out. In their absence, Ben Dunk scored 62 from 47 balls to set 146/6 against Perth Scorchers, but they fell to a six-wicket loss with 2.2 overs to spare. They were then bowled out for 137 in their next match – the last time they played Adelaide Strikers – despite Liam Plunkett having claimed four wickets to keep the Strikers to 178/5. Another below-par batting performance against Hobart Hurricanes then saw them bowled out for 126 in reply to 185/2.

Against Melbourne Renegades, Marcus Stoinis claimed 3-19 from his four overs and Liam Plunkett, Jackson Bird, Adam Zampa and Dwayne Bravo also chipped in with wickets to restrict the Gades to 121 all out. In reply, Stoinis scored an unbeaten 70 and the Stars bagged a much-needed six-wicket win.

Adelaide Strikers Team News & Playing 11

ADS Team News

Alex Carey and Billy Stanlake returned to the Adelaide Strikers’ line-up last time out, while Travis Head made way to join the test squad. Peter Siddle has also stayed with the national team. The return of two of their key players could not prevent a ten-wicket defeat to Hobart Hurricanes, however. Nevertheless – though improvements are evidently needed – the Strikers may stick with the same line-up for this match of BBL 2018-19.

ADS Key Players

Colin Ingram was the Strikers’ star man when they beat Melbourne Stars last time, and he has continued in that rich vein of form since. He followed up his 57 with scores of 48 and an unbeaten 67 in the next two games, despite two defeats.

Alex Carey returns to bolster the batting line-up, meanwhile – he hit a run-a-ball 28 last time out and will want to recapture the form that saw him hit two half-centuries in the first six Big Bash games this season. He opens with Jake Weatherald, who has 226 runs so far from nine innings.

While they went wicketless with the ball last time out, Rashid Khan is one of the best bowlers in the tournament this year – for the second season running. The Afghanistan leg-spinner has 13 wickets so far. Billy Stanlake has taken nine wickets in eight matches, meanwhile – though he was expensive on his return last time out.

ADS Team Form

Adelaide Strikers have been unable to find consistency this season. They have lost their last two games now, since beating the Melbourne Stars when these teams last met. Against the Stars, Colin Ingram scored a half-century to help set 178/5 from their 20 overs, before Ben Laughlin’s 3-19 saw the Stars dismissed for 137 – a 41-run Strikers win.

They have been unable to back it up, however, posting just 97 in 17.4 overs against the Sydney Thunder, in reply to 168/6, before their ten-wicket defeat to Hobart Hurricanes last time out. Ingram, who also top-scored against the Thunder with 48 of the 97 runs, scored 67 not out from 36 balls, in a total of 154/5. The Hurricanes reached the target in 16.5 overs, however, without losing a wicket.

Melbourne Stars vs Adelaide Strikers Head to Head

Adelaide Strikers' win when these teams last met takes them to four wins and four defeats in their eight previous matches. Colin Ingram scored a half-century last time out as the Strikers set 178/5 and Ben Laughlin took 3-19 to help seal a 41-run win.

They beat the Stars in their only match last season too, after restricting them to 151/6 despite Glenn Maxwell’s 60 from 39 balls. In reply Alex Carey scored 59 not out and Travis Head 53 in a comfortable eight-wicket win.

Melbourne Stars vs Adelaide Strikers Betting Odds

Melbourne Stars have welcomed their key players back and are favourites to beat Adelaide Strikers. Bet365 and Betfair are offering 1.80 on the Stars to win and Betway 1.75. The former two have the out-of-form Strikers at 2.00.

Marcus Stoinis returned with a bang last time out and he is a best price of 5.00 with Bet365 to be the Stars’ top batsman after his unbeaten 70 in the Victoria derby win.

Colin Ingram, who top-scored for the Strikers when these teams last met and has done so in both games since too, is 4.00 with Betfair to be their top batsman as he leads the Strikers’ response.Rashid Khan will be the man tasked with keeping the Stars’ batsmen under wraps, meanwhile. He is 3.25 with Betfair to be their top bowler – the whole attack went wicketless last time out, so somebody needs to stand up.

🏆 Melbourne Stars vs Adelaide Strikers Prediction

Melbourne Stars showed what a difference their quartet of Australian call-ups make when they beat Melbourne Renegades last time out. They can continue their resurgence by beating inconsistent Adelaide Strikers.

Final Verdict: Back Melbourne Stars to beat Adelaide Strikers at 1.75 with Betway and 1.80 with Bet365 and Betfair.
