Melbourne Renegades Team News & Playing 11

MLR Team News

After being dropped from the Australian test squad, Aaron Finch is available to lead the Melbourne Renegades against Hobart Hurricanes in what will be a fleeting return before he teams back up with the Australian limited-overs set-up. The Renegades have been unchanged in their previous two matches, with Mackenzie Harvey fit again and opening the batting. It is Harvey who could make way for the big-hitting Australian limited overs captain, however.

MLR Key Players

Aaron Finch's return will be a big boost to a Melbourne Renegades side desperate to get back to winning ways in BBL 2018-19. The big-hitting opener will want to test his white-ball form ahead of Australia's limited-overs matches with India.

In his absence, runs have been hard to come by but all-rounder Dan Christian has had a couple of good knocks - an unbeaten 49 against Adelaide Strikers and 32 in the Melbourne derby. He also has four wickets to his name, having done well with bat and ball with Jozi Stars in Mzansi Super League last month too.

Mohammad Nabi is another to have made a couple of useful contributions, including his top score - an unbeaten 48 against Adelaide Strikers - after hitting 35 in an otherwise low-scoring first game against Perth Scorchers.

With the ball, Kane Richardson claimed eight wickets in his first three games and will be keen to get back in the wickets after two blanks in the most recent two matches.

MLR Team Form

Last season's semi-finalists started this year's tournament with a win against Perth Scorchers. Dan Christian and Kane Richardson shared six wickets to bowl the Scorchers out for 103 in a four-wicket win. Christian then starred with the bat, as he (49*) and Mohammad Nabi (48*) shared a match-winning 94-run stand in a five-wicket win against Adelaide Strikers.

It has all been downhill since, however, with three defeats in a row. They struggled to 99/9 from 20 overs in reply to Sydney Sixers' 132/7 in their last game at the Marvel Stadium, while their score of 148/9 in the New Year's Day Melbourne derby proved well short in a seven-wicket defeat at the MCG.

Last time out, in Geelong, they scored just 126/9 in reply to Adelaide Strikers' 158/6 as poor batting contributed to a third consecutive loss.

Melbourne Renegades Predicted Playing 11

Aaron Finch, Sam Harper, Cameron White, Tom Cooper, Mohammad Nabi, Dan Christian, Beau Webster, Jack Wildermuth, Cameron Boyce, Kane Richardson, Usman Shinwari

Hobart Hurricanes Team News & Playing 11

HBH Team News

Hobart Hurricanes have benfitted from consistency so far, helping them to five wins from five with an unchanged starting XI. Another win against Sydney Sixers means changes are unlikely again, certainly while Tim Paine remains on international duty.

HBH Key Players

D'Arcy Short led the way in last season's Big Bash League, finishing as the leading run scorer, and he tops the charts after five matches again this year. Short scored 64 from 42 balls in the win against Sydney Sixers and now has scores of 67, 34, 58, 34 and 64 in his five innings so far.

Fellow opener Matthew Wade - who has also taken the captaincy and wicket-keeping duties in Tim Paine's absence - has hit two half-centuries, meanwhile - 52 against the Melbourne Stars and 85 in the win against Sydney Thunder from just 49 balls.

The openers' form has meant middle-order batsmen like George Bailey have been able to keep things ticking with small contributions - Bailey having scored between 22 and 30 in four of his five innings so far.

James Faulkner's 3-36 in the win against Sydney Sixers was his second three-wicket haul so far, meanwhile - he now has ten wickets for the tournament. He is backed by Jofra Archer's pace - he has seven wickets from five games - while wily spinner Johan Botha took 3-22 in the win against the Sixers.

HBH Team Form

Hobart Hurricanes have won five from five so far, after finishing as runners-up last season. James Faulkner's 3-25 and D'Arcy Short's half-century helped them start with a 15-run win against Brisbane Heat, whole Matthew Wade hit 52 in a six-wicket defeat of Melbourne Stars next up.

Wade (85 from 49 balls) and Short (58 from 39) shared a 120-run opening stand as the Hurricanes chased 194 to beat Sydney Thunder by seven wickets, before a low-scoring win against Perth Scorchers. Riley Meredith claimed 3-15 and James Faulkner 2-21 as they restricted the Scorchers to 107/8, and won by six wickets.

Last time out, Faulkner and Johan Botha took three wickets apiece as Sydney Sixers set 161/8, and Short hit 64 from 42 balls as the Hurricanes maintained their winning start - winning by five wickets off the penultimate ball.

Melbourne Renegades vs Hobart Hurricanes Head to Head

Hobart Hurricanes have only won two of their seven previous matches against Melbourne Renegades - their worst record against any Big Bash team. They would have been glad to have avoided the Renegades in last year's play-offs therefore - especially after suffering a seven-wicket defeat when they last met.

Played at the Bellerive Oval, D'Arcy Short hit 34 from 19 balls in a total of 164/8 - restricted by Dwayne Bravo's 5-28 from four overs - but the Renegades stormed to a seven-wicket win as Cameron White hit 79 from 59 balls; Jofra Archer's 2-17 from four overs proving in vain.

Melbourne Renegades vs Hobart Hurricanes Betting Odds

Hobart Hurricanes are 1.83 to beat Melbourne Renegades with Betfair after their superb start to the Big Bash League this season. The Renegades have a good record in this fixture and are 1.90 to win, however.

Aaron Finch's return could benefit the Renegades, and he is 3.00 to be their top run scorer. The Hurricanes boast the form batsman of this year's tournament so far, however. D'Arcy Short is 3.10 to be their top run scorer with Betfair, while Matthew Wade - who is also in good nick - is 3.75.

At the very least, that Short/Wade partnership can give the Hurricanes a big start. They are 1.72 with Betfair to post the highest opening partnership - comfortable favourites.

🏆 Melbourne Renegades vs Hobart Hurricanes Prediction

Melbourne Renegades have a good record in this fixture and welcome back Aaron Finch, but Hobart Hurricanes have won five from five so far and look unstoppable.
