Lancashire are favorites to win
Lancashire Lightning and Notts Outlaws face each other at Old Trafford in the North Group of the 2019 Vitality Blast. The match takes place on August 3 and the live action begins at 19:00 local time.
Lancashire are the early pace-setters in the North Group, with three wins from their first five matches. Beating the Outlaws would keep them well placed as they bid to reach yet another Finals Day.
Notts Outlaws have been in mixed form, but do have Alex Hales firing at the top of the order – the former England opener has a point to prove after missing the World Cup following his drugs ban. Notts know anything less than a win could see their rivals for a top-four place start to pull away from them./p>

Teams winning the toss at Old Trafford have tended to bat first, though Lancashire have won one batting first and won one chasing. The hosts will still want to bat first, however, should Dane Vilas win the toss.
There is small chance of rain in the evening in Manchester, which could lead to some delays. The weather is otherwise cloudy, with 22-degree temperatures and very little wind expected.
The Old Trafford pitch was good for batting at the World Cup and has been good for batting since too. The spinners were in the wickets last time out.

Lancashire have enjoyed a settled line-up so far in this tournament, with Dane Vilas captaining the team and keeping wicket. Australian all-rounders Glenn Maxwell and James Faulkner are Lancashire’s overseas stars. Jos Buttler is on England duty, as is James Anderson – though the latter has rarely featured in this competition.
Glenn Maxwell: The Australian batted twice in the first four games, but scored a half-century in one of those innings and had a strike rate of 162.74 from the 51 balls he had faced. He is also a good extra spin-bowling option.
James Faulkner: Becoming a Lancashire cult hero, having returned to the club a few times now. The Australian all-rounder is a brilliant death bowler with his changes in pace, and his big-hitting is undoubted too. He was key to Lancs’ only title in this competition.
Liam Livingstone: As well as his well-renowned six-hitting and big innings at the top of the order, Livingstone has also proved adept with the ball – as he proved with his 3-21 in Lancashire’s home win against Worcestershire.
Prior to facing Durham, Lancashire had won all three of their completed matches with a further two rained off. Steven Croft topped scored with an unbeaten 65 as Lancashire posted 189/3 against Durham and then bowled them out for 117 in their first win.
Next up was Yorkshire, and Dane Vilas’ 43 from 24 balls helped them to 170/6 and they took regular wickets in reply as the Vikings finished on 161/9.
Their most recent win was affected by the rain. Liam Livingstone took 3-21 with the ball to restrict Worcestershire to 130/9, and then hammered 21 from 14 balls to ensure the hosts were well ahead of the DLS par score when the rain came.

Luke Fletcher returned to the Notts side when they faced Leicestershire but only bowled one over in a rain-reduced match. He and Luke Wood both came into the team but Matthew Carter – one of those replaced – may be restored to the starting line-up if Jake Ball does not bring his economy rate down.
Alex Hales: It could have been him winning the World Cup and starting this Ashes summer opening the batting, but for off-field indiscipline costing him once again. England’s loss is Notts’ gain, however – he hit 158 runs in his first four innings in this competition.
Harry Gurney: Started this season’s Blast in wicket-taking form with ten from his first four matches, having previously helped Melbourne Renegades to the Big Bash title and played for Kolkata at the IPL too.
Dan Christian: A key part of Notts’ success in this competition in 2017, the experienced all-rounder remains a canny bowler and useful late-order hitter too. He was player of the match in the aforementioned Big Bash final with the Renegades.
Notts Outlaws have had a mixed set of results so far. After starting with a defeat to Worcestershire and a rained-off trip to Yorkshire, Notts beat Northamptonshire and Derbyshire with Alex Hales in top batting form.
Prior to Friday’s game against Birmingham, however, their winning run had been ended in a match reduced to 11 overs against Leicestershire – the Foxes posting 125/3 and the Outlaws managing 104/6 in reply.

The Outlaws have the edge in the overall head-to-head record with Lancashire. They have won 12 of their 20 previous meetings compared the Lightning’s eight victories. They only met once last season, with Notts hammering 196/9 from their 20 overs. In reply, Lancashire were tied up by Ish Sodhi (2-17) and Harry Gurney (1-16) as they could only reach 139/8 after 15 overs – 17 runs behind their rain-reduced target.
