Lahore Qalandars were hit by a huge injury blow when AB de Villiers was ruled out of the remainder of the tournament with a back strain. The South African icon had been one of their top performers but was replaced by late recruit Ryan ten Doeschate last time out. The Dutch all-rounder was one of five changes last time out, with Anton Devcich, Umair Masood, Shaheen Afridi and Rahat Ali also slotting in for Corey Anderson, Gaukhar Ali, Aizaz Cheema and Yasir Shah. Ten Doeschate could not complete his final over due to a back injury, however, and may be a doubt for this game.

With AB de Villiers, their top run scorer, ruled out of the rest of the tournament, Lahore Qalandars will be turning to Fakhar Zaman for runs. The Pakistani opener hit the first of two half-centuries in this season’s tournament in the opening game against Islamabad United and has 194 runs from eight innings in total.

There have been few stand-out batting performances for the Qalandars aside from Zaman and De Villiers in Pakistan Super League 2019, but Haris Sohail has hit 33*, 20 and 43 in his three innings while Ryan ten Doeschate arrives on the back of some useful runs for the Netherlands in the Oman Quadrangular Tournament and some top knocks in the Bangladesh Premier League for the Rajshahi Kings. 

David Weise can hit a ball down the order too – he scored an unbeaten 26 last time out and has 94 runs from his four PSL innings so far this season, to complement the three wickets he has taken. Having only been dismissed once, he boasts a 94 average too.With the ball, Haris Rauf is among the leading wicket-takers in the tournament with 11 from eight matches though it was Shaheen Afridi’s 3-17, including one maiden, that caught the eye against Peshawar Zalmi. Rahat Ali took 1-12 from four overs on his return, meanwhile as they had Zalmi 20/5 at one point. Rahat also took four wickets when these teams last met.

Sandeep Lamichhane went wicketless last time out, but the Nepalese spinner already has ten wickets having been a late arrival following the Big Bash League.

Defeats to Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi in low-scoring matches have seen Lahore Qalandars come unstuck as they bid to qualify for the play-offs, having now not won since bowling Quetta Gladiators for 106 more than a week ago.

Sandeep Lamichhane claimed 4-10 from his four overs in that game, before AB de Villiers anchored the chase with an unbeaten 47 to secure an eight-wicket win.
