Last season’s runners-up, Lahore Qalandars, will bid for a second win in as many games at the start of the 2021 Pakistan Super League when they take on Quetta Gladiators. They two teams meet at the National Stadium, Karachi, on February 22 and the live action starts at 19:00 local time.
The Qalandars, who lost to Multan Sultans in last season’s final, had Shaheen Afridi to thank for their opening win against Peshawar Zalmi. In a fiery bowling spell, Afridi took 3-14 to restrict Peshawar Zalmi to 140/6, and the Qalandars claimed a four-wicket win with nine balls to spare.
Afridi should be relishing the chance to now take on a fragile Quetta Gladiators’ batting line-up, who were bowled out for just 121 in their opening game. They suffered a seven-wicket defeat to Karachi Kings, with the defending champions only requiring 13.5 overs to get home despite Mohammad Hasnain’s 2-18.

Haris Rauf’s absence is a blow for Lahore Qalandars, who were also without Dilbar Hussain last time out. Salman Mirza took two wickets, while Ahmed Daniyal bowled rapidly but was expensive. Both could keep their places in the starting XI.
Lahore made a winning start to the PSL 2021 as Shaheen Afridi (3-14) starred with the ball, and Mohammad Hafeez (33*) and Rashid Khan (27*) sealed a four-wicket win with nine balls to spare against Peshawar Zalmi. Rashid’s 15-ball innings got them out of a tricky spot to reach 143/6 and claim victory.

Ben Dunk is a key middle-order batsman for Lahore Qalandars and very good value having already scored 62 points. Sarfaraz Ahmed is 0.5 credits more expensive, but the Quetta captain opened the batting last time out and could also be worth picking.
Batsmen
Chris Gayle is ten credits but proved he is still in good batting form with his innings last time out. Fakhar Zaman is at the top of the order for Lahore, meanwhile, and a key batsman too. Zaman was partnered by Sohail Akhtar last time out, who could himself prove a good-value option at 8.5 credits.
All rounder
Mohammad Hafeez was key with the bat for Lahore last time out, while Mohammad Nawaz arrives with the Quetta Gladiators on the back of some good bowling form with Pakistan. Both are useful all-rounders and worth picking – though Ben Cutting and David Wiese are good alternatives if you choose to look elsewhere.
Bowlers
Shaheen Afridi and Rashid Khan are both 9.5 credits but both were central to Lahore’s win last time out. Afridi took the wickets and Rashid bowled economically before batting well. Both are must-picks, as is Mohammad Hasnain if his bowling last time out is anything to go by. Right down the other end of the pricing scale, Ahmed Daniyal was wicketless last time out but bowled at an excellent pace. All-rounder Agha Salman is an alternative at the eight-credit pricepoint though.
Captain /Vice Captain
Shaheen Afridi topped last season’s wicket-taking charts and started this season in excellent bowling form too. He could be worth picking as captain, while Rashid Khan reminded everyone he is still key with ball and bat and would be a great alternative or vice-captain.
