After levelling the test series 2-2 with England, Pakistan begin their tour of Ireland for a two-match One-Day International series as part of preparations for the forthcoming ODI series against England. The first ODI will be played on August 18 at the Malahide Cricket Club Ground, Dublin and live action will commence at 10:45 AM local time.

Venue and Toss
A total of six ODIs have been played at this ground till date. The two most recent matches were played between Ireland and Sri Lanka this year in June. The Lankans posted 303 and 377 in the first-innings which indicates that the conditions should be ideal for batting and the team that bats first here would want to get as close to 300 as possible.
Of these six games, four have been won by the team batting second and so the team that wins the toss on Thursday will probably want to field first.
For Ireland to stay in the contest, they will need to win the toss and restrict Pakistan to less than 250.

Predicted Score: Around 250
The opening pair of Ed Joyce and skipper William Porterfield are going to be the key elements in their batting lineup. Joyce scored 339 runs at an average of about 170 in Ireland's most recent series against Afghanistan. Porterfield and Kevin O'Brien both hit fifties at this ground against Sri Lanka not too long ago. Ireland will depend on these three the most for reaching the predicted score.
Mohammad Amir, Wahab Riaz and Umar Gul will be heading the pace attack for Pakistan. Gul last played an ODI back in April 2015 and since he will be short on match-practice, the visitors will have their hopes pinned on Mohammad Amir who had a great test series in England. Leg-spinner Yasir Shah also did a good job in the test series and he can be effective here as well. Pakistan will want these two to bowl well in order to keep Ireland below 250.

Mohammad Hafeez, Azhar Ali, Babar Azam and Shoaib Malik will have to do most of the scoring for their side. Azhar Ali scored the most runs after Younis Khan in the England test series and he is most likely to top-score in this match. Mohammad Hafeez and Babar Azam both had good scores in their last two ODIs in New Zealand. These four will have to perform if Pakistan are to reach 280 or more.
Ireland's bowling is set to be bolstered with the return of Craig Young and he will be backed by his team to pick up the early wickets. George Dockrell has been dropped from the side and so Ireland will be relying mainly on the spin of Paul Stirling and Andy McBrine. Ireland will have to take a few wickets upfront if they are to deny Pakistan a big total.

The two teams have met each other in six one-day internationals with Pakistan winning four of them. Ireland have won only once and one match has ended in a tie. Pakistan have three wins in Ireland against the hosts and they will be going into this match with a clean slate against them.

Pakistan produced a brilliant performance in the test series against England and they will be looking to carry their test form into the ODI format. However, their performance in the white-ball fixtures has not been the best of late. But again, Ireland too have been giving below-par performances in limited overs cricket and the visitors have an excellent record over them.
Though Pakistan are an unpredictable side and Ireland have a habit of staging upsets, we are backing the visitors here to win the first ODI on the basis of current form.
