IRE vs ZIM Toss Prediction

If the pitch stays low and slow, it could favour teams fielding first. Zimbabwe were poor setting targets in the Netherlands and Hamilton Masakadza may prefer to chase.

IRE vs ZIM Weather Report

An overcast day with the likelihood of showers awaits in County Tyrone, which could mean a frustrating start to this series for Ireland and Zimbawe.

IRE vs ZIM Pitch Condition

This is the first international to be played at Bready since last summer, but the pitch has tended to be a slow, turning wicket in the past.

Ireland Team News & Playing 11

IRE Team News

Shane Getkate and Simi Singh have been recalled to the Ireland squad, with George Dockrell and Barry McCarthy absent from the squad which faced Afghanistan before the World Cup. Singh could replace McCarthy from the team which lost their most recent match.

IRE Key Players

Paul Stirling hit half-centuries in both matches against Afghanistan in Ireland’s most recent ODI series and he also top-scored for the hosts in the Ireland Tri-Nation Series against Bangladesh and West Indies.

William Porterfield also scored a half-century in the drawn series with Afghanistan, while Andy Balbirnie caught the eye with a century against West Indies earlier in May. His recent form in all formats for Leinster has been good too.

With the ball, Mark Adair took seven wickets in the two games against Afghanistan, while their experienced opening bowling combination of Boyd Rankin and Tim Murtagh also remain key. Rankin has ten wickets in his last five ODIs, while Murtagh took 2-12 in Ireland’s most-recent win.

IRE Team Form

Ireland lost all three matches they played during the Tri-Nation Series they hosted – twice to West Indies and once to Bangladesh.

They followed that up with a two-game series against Afghanistan and won the first game as Paul Stirling (71) and William Porterfield (53) helped them post 210. In reply, Mark Adair (4-19), Tim Murtagh (2-12) and Boyd Rankin (3-40) bowled Afghanistan out for 138.

Ireland’s most recent match, also against Afghanistan, ended in a heavy defeat, however. Three more Adair wickets could not stop them conceding 305/7 and, despite Paul Stirling’s 50, they were all out for 179 in reply.

Ireland Predicted Playing 11

Paul Stirling, James McCollum, Andy Balbirnie, William Porterfield (c), Kevin O’Brien, Gary Wilson (wk), Andy McBrine, Mark Adair, Simi Singh, Tim Murtagh, Boyd Rankin

Zimbabwe Team News & Playing 11

ZIM Team News

Zimbabwe have an unchanged squad for the tour of Ireland as they did for the Netherlands but, after two defeats, it may not be an unchanged team. Elton Chigumbura, Tinashe Kamunhukamwe, Ryan Burl, Christopher Mpofu and Richmond Mutmbami were the unused players against the Dutch. Burl, Chigumbura and Mpofu may have done enough in the T20i series that followed to earn a recall to the ODI team.

ZIM Key Players

Zimbabwe’s big names all showed flashes of their best form against the Netherlands. Brendan Taylor, for example, hit 71 in the first match and 51 in the second to move to 38 ODI half-centuries (in addition to his ten centuries).

In the second match, Craig Ervine’s 84 and Sikandar Raza’s quick-fire unbeaten 85 led the way, meanwhile. Ervine had previously hit two half-centuries against the UAE in Harare.

Against the UAE, Sean Williams scored a century while in the series against the Dutch he claimed six wickets – including 4-43 in the second ODI.

ZIM Team Form

Zimbabwe’s European tour started in the Netherlands, where they lost both ODI matches they played. Brendan Taylor’s 71 helped them to 205/8 from 47 overs in the first match, but the Netherlands comfortably chased it down to win by seven wickets.

Next up, Sikandar Raza top-scored with 85* to lift Zimbabwe to a much-improved 290/6. Again, however, the Dutch chased it down – winning by three wickets with four balls to spare.

Zimbabwe Predicted Playing 11

Hamilton Masakadza (c), Solomon Mire, Craig Ervine, Brendan Taylor (wk), Sean Williams, Sikandar Raza, Elton Chigumbura, Ryan Burl, Kyle Jarvis, Christopher Mpofu, Tendai Chatara

Ireland vs Zimbabwe Head to Head

Zimbabwe and Ireland last met in the Cricket World Cup qualifier in Harare in 2018, when the hosts stormed to a big win. Sikandar Raza’s unbeaten 69 led them to 211/9 and, though lowly, that proved more than enough as Graeme Cremer’s 3-18 helped them bowl Ireland out for just 104.

That was Zimbabwe’s sixth win in ten previous games against Ireland. The Irish have won three and there was also their thrilling tie at the 2007 World Cup in Kingston.

Ireland vs Zimbabwe Betting Odds

IRE vs ZIM Dream XI Prediction

Both sides have enough players in decent form ahead of this ODI series to make for a balanced Dream 11 side.

Wicket-keeper

Neither Lorcan Tucker nor Richmond Mutmbami played in their respective team’s most recent ODI series. That leaves a straight choice between Brendan Taylor and Gary Wilson and, despite his cost, Taylor is worth it if he can maintain his good form.

Batsmen

Paul Stirling hit half-centuries in both of Ireland’s matches against Afghanistan, while Andy Balbirnie has announced himself as one to watch too. For Zimbabwe, Craig Ervine showed good form too. It is worth sticking to the minimum three batsman, however, to maintain space for a full complement of all-rounders.

All-rounders

Sikandar Raza and Sean Williams have contributed with either bat or ball in Zimbabwe’s recent successes, while Ireland’s Mark Adair shone with the ball against Afghanistan. If the pitch spins, recalled Simi Singh will play a key part for Ireland too.

Bowlers

In addition to Adair, Ireland’s veteran pacemen have been in good bowling form too. Picking both Boyd Rankin and Tim Murtagh then leaves enough credits for a free choice of the final bowler in this team. Kyle Jarvis has been wicketless lately, but his bowling reputation is well-known.

Captain/Vice-captain

Brendan Taylor’s form is good and he is consistently one of Zimbabwe’s star men, but the all-rounders are worth considering too. Sean Williams has been in good batting and bowling form in recent series. Of the Irish, Paul Stirling is also consistent at the top of the order and worth consideration for the vice-captain role.

🏆 Ireland vs Zimbabwe Prediction

Zimbabwe arrive in Ireland on the back of a disappointing tour of the Netherlands and the Irish can take advantage. A home win will set them up nicely at the start of this series.

Final Verdict: Back Ireland to beat Zimbabwe.
