Ireland and New Zealand go head to head in the first of three ODIs at The Village, Malahide. The hosts have not played this format since January when they recorded a famous 2-1 victory against West Indies. New Zealand thrashed the Netherlands 3-0 in March. Read on as we preview this match. This opening ODI gets underway at 10:00 on Saturday morning.
Ireland have been in strong form in ODI cricket and pushed India all the way in their final IT20 last month. They have the advantage of home conditions but New Zealand will be a very tough opposition.

There are two new names in the Ireland squad for this series. Opening batter Stephen Doheny and bowling all-rounder Graham Hume have both been called up for the first time. We expect them to feature in the series but not in this opening ODI.
The ODI series victory over West Indies earlier this year was a big statement from Ireland. They also pushed India very hard in the final IT20.

The Black-Caps have selected a relatively inexperienced squad for this tour and will be led by Tom Latham. Big names such as Kane Williamson, Trent Boult and Tim Southee are not available, but with the likes of Martin Guptill and Lockie Ferguson on show, there is no shortage of quality.
