Friday’s game was India’s first T20I since early December in Australia and England’s first in the format since December in South Africa.
India need runs from across their batting line-up, in the last match they fell to 3-2 and 20-3 which meant they were always chasing the game and struggled to put the England bowlers on the back foot. With the ball, none of their bowlers had an economy rate of below 6.50 and England’s Test nemesis Axar Patel was ineffective.
England may well be tempted to open the bowling with Adil Rashid again, Friday’s game was the first time that he has opened the bowling in a T20I during a powerplay. He bowled in tandem with Jofra Archer who recorded his best bowling figures of 3-23, all of England’s bowlers took wickets with the exception of Sam Curran. England’s top four batsmen all had valuable time in the middle with Jason Roy coming back into form with 49. Overall, we expect India to come back hard in this match and push England very close.

- Rishabh Pant - Pant plays the game with a freedom and enjoyment we that we don’t see from many players at this level. When he gets going the crowd erupts and England’s fielders and bowlers can feel very intimidated. However it is now nine T20I innings since he went past 50!
- Axar Patel - the left-arm spinner caused England huge problems in the Test series and will be looking to get that psychological hold over the T20I batsmen as soon as possible. If England can take him for 8 runs an over without losing a wicket, then they will feel they have turned the tables.
