Shikhar Dhawan agonisingly fell 2 runs short of his 18th ODI century in the first game, finishing with 98 from 106 balls. It’s the second time in five innings that he’s been dismissed very close to triple figures in this format, back in January 2020 he made 96 against Australia in Rajkot.
India’s bowling was excellent in the first ODI. It featured Prasidh Krishna who took 4-54 on his debut and combined with fellow debutant Krunal Pandya’s 31-ball unbeaten 58, the new boys grasped their opportunity with both hands. It will be interesting to see if they can back up these performances in this game.
For England, Ben Stokes and Sam Curran were economical with the ball in the last game but Jonny Bairstow was the only batsman to make a significant score. His 66-ball 96 was his highest score in international cricket in India and his second successive half-century score in India in this format.

India vs England 2nd ODI Prediction & Betting Tips
India go into the second of three ODIs against England with a 1-0 lead and on a three game winning streak against the tourists. Virat Kohli will be delighted with the way that the middle order propelled his side to a competitive total, before his bowlers managed to pull England back from 135-0 to 251 all out. Read on as we preview the next ODI between India and England. The match will be played at the Maharashtra Cricket Stadium, Pune and will get underway at 13:30 local time.
India have the all important momentum across both the white ball series and if you start counting after the First Test in Chennai, England have lost seven of the next nine fixtures on this tour. It will take a herculean effort for England to turn this around, particularly as India are showing off the depth in their ranks with debutants who look immediately at home at this level.
England’s chances in the second ODI have been harmed by injuries to captain Eoin Morgan and form middle-order batsman Sam Billings. Morgan, who famously skippered England to their first ODI World Cup success in 2019, split webbing in his right hand and Billings, who averaged 78.75 in ODIs in 2020, sprained his collar bone joint. Both players are unavailable for this game.

IND vs ENG Toss Prediction
Eoin Morgan won the toss in Tuesday’s game but asking India to bat first didn’t make much of a difference in the final result. We expect whichever captain who wins the toss to elect to field.
Pitch Report
There was something in the pitch for the spin bowlers but it favoured the seam up bowlers who returned the best figures. Mark Wood’s express pace only saw the ball fly to the boundary at great speed, we expect a similar pitch for this game.
Weather Report
Sunny throughout. The game will start with a temperature of 37 before peaking at 38 degrees.

India Team News & Playing 11
IND Team News
We expect India to make one enforced change with Shreyas Iyer missing after partially dislocating his shoulder in Tuesday’s game. There are two candidates to replace him, Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill. There is still room for improvement from the rest of Virat Kohli’s side who looked likely to post a sub-par total at one stage and had no answer to Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow’s powerful hitting in the first thirteen overs of England’s innings.
IND Key Players
Virat Kohli - India’s captain is a key player with the bat and in the field across all formats of the game with ODIs no exception. In this format he is second only to Sachin Tendulkar for number of centuries, 49 v 43, and he showed his class again with 56 runs from 60 balls on Tuesday.
KL Rahul - After a very disappointing T20I series, Rahul showed that class is permanent with an unbeaten 43-ball 63 across the final seventeen overs of India’s innings. He also proved his worth with the gloves, taking three catches to dismiss Morgan, Moeen and Rashid.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar - In spite of the electric performances from the debutants, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was arguably the pick of the India players in the first ODI. Not only taking 2 wickets but keeping his economy rate down to only 3.33 meant that the England batsmen had to take risks off the other bowlers.
IND Team Form
After losing five successive ODIs in New Zealand and Australia across 2020, India have now won their last two games in this format. Beating Australia by 13 runs in Canberra ahead of the comprehensive victory over England in Pune on Tuesday.
Jos Buttler (9) and KL Rahul (9) are our wicket-keepers. Rahul delivered in both disciplines on Tuesday whereas Buttler will be looking to add runs and more catches to his performance.
Batsmen
Virat Kohli (10), Jonny Bairstow (9.5) and Shikhar Dhawan (9.5) will be our batsmen. All three produced good scores in the first game with Bairstow and Dhawan agonisingly close to making centuries.
All-rounders
Ben Stokes (10) and Hardik Pandya (9) make up our all-rounders. They both made 1 run with the bat in Tuesday’s ODI and aren’t the type of players to settle for those type of returns on a regular basis.
Bowlers
Adil Rashid (9), Mark Wood (8.5) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (8.5) complete our bowling attack. Kumar was the pick of the players across both disciplines from both sides on Tuesday, Rashid and Wood will be hoping to produce stronger performances this time.
Captain/Vice-captain
Virat Kohli will be our skipper while Jonny Bairstow will be his deputy
England will return to the Maharashtra Cricket Stadium not only with the knowledge that they let a very winnable position slip, but also, with a weakened side. Morgan and Billings will be replaced by Liam Livingstone and one other, but we would expect the two days rest to be sufficient to select Mark Wood in back to back fixtures again.
ENG Key Players
Jason Roy - The opener came into this tour with question marks against his position in both the T20I and ODI side, but have scores of 49, 46, 40 and 46 proved his doubters wrong? England need Roy to kick on and produce a really significant innings to prove his worth to the team.
Jonny Bairstow - Roy’s partner at the top of the order registered a half-century for the first time on this tour at the tenth time of asking, but he will be bitterly disappointed that he couldn’t produce a three figure score or take England to within touching distance of the target. He has four scores of 80+ in his last six ODI innings.
Adil Rashid - with Jofra Archer out of the remaining games of the tour, the pressure with the ball increases for Adil Rashid. He went wicketless on Tuesday with his nine overs costing 66 runs. England will require a greater economy and penetration from Rashid in this game.
ENG Team Form
This supposed all-conquering England ODI side have now lost four of their last five fixtures with defeats to India, Australia and Ireland. With Morgan joining Archer and Root out of the side then it is hard to see how that form can pick up.
England Predicted Playing 11
Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes, Dawid Malan, Jos Buttler (c) (wk), Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood

India vs England Betting Odds
After the comprehensive win on Tuesday and the way the tour is going, India are favourites again.
Who will win India vs England 2nd ODI?
Virat Kohli and Jonny Bairstow are expected to flourish with the bat in this game.
We’ll back the top three batsmen Kohli, Rohit, and Dhawan for India. All three got starts with Rohit the only one not to make a half-century on Tuesday.
For England we are backing Bairstow, Roy and Morgan all of whom have unfinished business from the first ODI. The England side must build on any foundation built by the openers this time.
After his accurate bowling in the first ODI, we couldn’t ignore Kumar. We back him alongside Yadav and Krishna for India. Yadav was expensive on Tuesday but should improve in this game.
For England, we expect Rashid and Wood to return to their high standards we saw during the T20I series. Ben Stokes produced a whole hearted display with the ball and we expect the same again.
England will be kicking themselves after letting India get away with the bat in the latter stages of their innings before collapsing themselves after a very strong start. It will take a strong mental effort from England to be able to wrestle back the initiative in the series, but after all they are world champions and perhaps we shouldn’t write them off just yet. However, India are starting to look like a side who can win from any position in any format and we expect them to go 2-0 up on Friday.
