Who will win India vs Bangladesh, 1st Test

India will look to continue their excellent test-match form when they take on Bangladesh in the first match of their two-test series. The first test takes place at Indore’s Holkar Stadium from November 14-18, with the live action starting at 1000 local time every day.

The series, as well being for the Ganguly-Durjoy Trophy, also forms part of the ICC World Test Championship, which India currently lead after five wins across their two series with West Indies and South Africa. Rohit Sharma was in sublime form opening the batting in the most recent series.

Bangladesh, who have never beat India in a test match – this will be their tenth attempt – are yet to start their ICC World Test Championship campaign. They lost their most recent test to Afghanistan, however, and without suspended captain Shakib Al Hasan they are huge outsiders for this match too.

The Indore wicket is perfect for batting and any other decision but to bat first would be crazy.

IND vs BAN Weather Report

Indore is set for perfect cricketing conditions over the next week and there should be no disruptions weather-wise to this match.

IND vs BAN Pitch Condition

The Holkar Stadium is a batting haven. The pitch has a consistent, face bounce and the short boundaries and lightning-fast outfield all combines with that to mean big runs are likely.

India Team News & Playing 11

IND Team News

After being rested for the T20i series, Virat Kohli returns to lead India against Bangladesh in these test matches. Rohit Sharma will continue at the top of the order after his fine form in the series with South Africa, while Kuldeep Yadav is fit and could play as a third spinner in place of Shahbaz Nadeem – who had replaced him for the final test against South Africa. Jasprit Bumrah is recovering from injury still.

IND Key Players

Rohit Sharma: Promoted to open the batting against South Africa and enjoyed a superb series. He hit 176 and 127 in his two innings in the first match and then concluded the series with a brilliant 212 – his highest test score – in the third test.

Virat Kohli: Another to score a double-century in the series win against South Africa, the India captain hit 254* in the second test – his 26th test century. He passed 7,000 test runs during that innings and currently averages 54.77 in test matches.

Mohammed Shami: Took nine wickets in the two tests against West Indies and then claimed 13 in the series with South Africa too. He now has 166 test match wickets in just 45 matches.

IND Team Form

India have won all five matches they have played in the inaugural ICC World Test Championship. They comfortably beat West Indies twice in Antigua and Jamaica, and then won three from three against South Africa – concluding with two innings victories – last month. Rohit Sharma hammered 212 in the most recent game, as India won by an innings and 202 runs.

India Predicted Playing 11

Mayank Agarwal, Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli (c), Ajinkya Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Umesh Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami

IND vs BAN Dream11 Team Prediction, Captain, Vice Captain

Wicket-keeper

Mushfiqur Rahim is set to be a key batsman for Bangladesh in this series, particularly with Shakin Al Hasan suspended and Tamim Iqbal absent. He is one of the Tigers’ all-time top test scorers.

Batsmen

Virat Kohli costs 10.5 credits at the top of the order but he starred in this fixture when these teams last met and he proved his enduring form when he hit 254* in the second test against South Africa last month too. That series against South Africa also saw Rohit Sharma hit incredible form up the order and so he appears to be excellent value at just nine credits. That is true also of Ajinkya Rahane, who regular contributes useful runs in the middle order, and Bangladesh’s stand-in captain Mominul Haque.

All-rounders

Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja took eight wickets between them in the second innings when these teams last met and the spinners look to be superb value at 9.5 credits apiece. You still need two Bangladesh players at this point, so looking at Mehidy Hasan Miraz or Mosaddek Hossain keeps the credits down while fulfilling that.

Bowlers

The final Bangladeshi players should be Taijul Islam, who passed 100 test match wickets in their defeat to Afghanistan in September. That leaves two spots for the Indian bowlers. In-form Mohammed Shami is nine credits, which leaves enough for Kuldeep Yadav at eight credits. Will India opt for three spinners? If they do not, Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav combine at the same price.

Captain/Vice-captain

Rohit Sharma was in superb form in the series with South Africa and he will be keen to continue that at the top of the order against Bangladesh too. Virat Kohli is always a threat with the bat too. Perhaps selecting just one as captain and leaving vice-captain to Ravindra Jadeja could be fruitful, however, given Jadeja has scored some lower-order runs and will pick up wickets with the ball too.

BAN Team News

As with the T20i matches, Bangladesh go into these tests without suspended captain Shakib Al Hasan. Mominul Haque will lead the test team in his place. From the team which lost to Afghanistan in September – Bangladesh’s only recent test – Soumya Sarkar is also absent.

BAN Key Players

Mushfiqur Rahim: Only Tamim Iqbal has more test runs for Bangladesh than the wicket-keeper-batsman, who moved to 4,029 in the test against Afghanistan in September.

Mominul Haque: The newly-appointed stand-in captain has scored 2,613 test runs at a handy average of 41.47 for Bangladesh so far.

Taijul Islam: Six wickets in the match against Afghanistan ensured he became only the third Bangladeshi – and the only one in this current squad – to reach 100 test match wickets for the Tigers.

BAN Team Form

Bangladesh are yet to play a match in the inaugural ICC World Test Championship, and their only test match since the tournament started was against Afghanistan – who are outside the competition. Taijul Islam took four wickets in the first innings but Bangladesh conceded a 137-run lead, and when Afghanistan built on that to set them 398 to win it was game over. Bangladesh collapsed to 173 all out in thee final innings.

Bangladesh Predicted Playing 11

Shadnam Islam, Liton Das, Mominul Haque (c), Mohammad Mithun, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Mahmudullah, Mossadek Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Nayeem Hasan
