With a green wicket expected, it is likely the team winning the toss will field first – as both teams have done in each of the last two matches. Aaron Finch has won the toss twice, while Virat Kohli won it last time out.
Read on for team previews, betting tips, latest odds and match prediction for India vs Australia, 4th ODI.
India are expected to rotate their options with one eye on the World Cup, and assistant coach Sanjay Bangar has already confirmed MS Dhoni will be rested for the final two games in the series. Rishabh Pant will keep wicket in his place, therefore. Mohammed Shami could also miss out with a shin injury after being struck during the third ODI - Bhuvneshwar Kumar is back in the squad after being rested himself, and could be the man to come in. Yuzvendra Chahal and KL Rahul could also be handed starts.
Virat Kohli made it back-to-back centuries in the third ODI, when he bludgeoned 123 from 95 balls in India's total of 281 all out. While not enough to lead India to victory, Kohli's 41st ODI century did move him to 283 runs from three games so far and took his ODI average above 60.
With World Cup places up for grabs, the onus is now on India's other batting stars to prove their worth. Rishabh Pant will step into the team and is one of those players still to seize his World Cup place. He hit a test century against Australia earlier this year, however, and will hope to replicate that form in the one-day game.
Kedar Jadhav's top score of 81 in the first match, and Vijay Shankar's all-round form - which peaked with his last-over heroics in the second match - have already helped to answer some selection questions.
With the ball, Jasprit Bumrah took 2-29 in the second ODI, while Kuldeep Yadav remains consistent with his spin-bowling - three more wickets last time out take him to eight in total for the series.
India are looking to record a fourth consecutive ODI series win, having already beaten Australian away this season in between wins against West Indies and New Zealand.
Virat Kohli - as he was against West Indies - has been their main man in the current series. After beating New Zealand 4-1, he has scored 44, 116 and 123 from his three innings so far - his match-winning century in the second ODI earning him the man of the match award, having also reached three figures in the second game of the away series in Australia.
They lost last time out, however, with nobody really supporting the captain with the bat as a chase of 314 proved a step too far - the hosts dismissed for 281 from 48.2 overs in reply.
Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Ambati Rayudu, Rishabh Pant, Kedar Jadhav, Vijay Shankar, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah
Jhye Richardson returned to the pace attack last time out, replacing Nathan Coulter-Nile, but both could play this fourth game if Australia opt for an extra seamer on the green Mohali wicket. That would mean one of Nathan Lyon and Adam Zampa missing out, with Glenn Maxwell taking a greater share of the spin bowling as a result.
Usman Khawaja hit his maiden ODI century to set Australia up for victory last time out, having already top-scored in the first match too. He has 192 runs in the series and now boasts six ODI 50s and one century from 23 innings.
Khawaja shared an opening stand of 193 with captain Aaron Finch, whose own return to form was timely, while Glenn Maxwell - in fine form in the T20 series that preceded these ODIs - weighed in with a handy 47 and offers an extra bowling option too.
With the ball, Pat Cummins has taken seven wickets across the last two matches - adding 3-37 from his 8.2 overs last time out.
On his first appearance of the current series, meanwhile, Jhye Richardson took 3-37 from nine overs, including two maidens. He previously took six wickets in the home series against India.
Australia are in a poor run of form in ODI cricket, but managed to get out of the mire last time out when they won the third game in this series thanks to Usman Khawaja's century and three wickets each for Jhye Richardson, Pat Cummins and Adam Zampa.
They have already lost once to India this season in their most recent ODI series before this one and looked set for another when they were restricted to 236/7 in the first ODI and folded for 242 in reply to India's 250 in the second.
The shoots of recovery showed in Ranchi, however, keeping this series alive with two games still to play. It was also Australia's first win in five ODIs.

India remain on 49 ODI wins against Australia, after the tourists secured their 75th win against them in the most recent game in this series. It ended a run of four consecutive Indian wins since Jhye Richardson's 4-26 had inspired Australia to victory in the first game of their series down under in November.
Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni and Yuzvendra Chahal turned the series around for India, and big innings by Kedar Jadhav and Kohli had put them in charge of this series too. Another Kohli century was not enough last time out, however - Usman Khawaja taking the plaudits for his 104, while Richardson and Cummins led the bowling in a 32-run Australia win. India are still on course to match the score from their last home series against Australia, however - a 4-1 win back in 2017.
The odds on an India win have gone out slightly since Australia won the third ODI, but they are still favourites at 1.53 with Bet365 compared to a best price of 2.75 on Australia to win.
Even in defeat, Virat Kohli's class was evident for all to see in the third ODI - his second consecutive century and third in his last five ODIs against Australia meaning he is now just 2.50 to be their top batsman with Bet365 in the fourth match.
For Australia, Usman Khawaja was their star man and he is 4.33 to top score again, but there were also positive signs when it came to the form of Aaron Finch (also 4.33 with Bet365) and Glenn Maxwell (6.00) which could make them worth backing.
Australia also boast some in-form bowlers, not least Pat Cummins. After seven wickets in his last two matches, he is 3.50 to be Australia's top bowler again.
India's dominant ODI form suffered a small setback last time out, but there were still enough positive signs to suggest they can wrap this series up in Mohali.
