India Team News & Playing 11

IND Team News

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is available for India for the final three ODIs after being rested for the first two matches, and the paceman could come straight into the Indian team. The hosts were unchanged for the first two matches, but Mohammed Shami was expensive last time out and could be the man to make way with the ball. Rishabh Pant, Yuzvendra Chahal and KL Rahul have also missed out so far and could come into the reckoning if India look to rotate their options ahead of the World Cup.

IND Key Players

Virat Kohli’s 40th ODI century helped India to victory in the second game of IND vs AUS ODI series – his score of 116 from 120 balls adding to the 44 he hit in the opening game. Kohli also hit a century in the ODI series in Australia and contributed 148 runs in the three matches against New Zealand in the format too. His ODI average is now 59.73 and is next half-century will be his 50th.

Kedar Jadhav top-scored in the first game, meanwhile, hitting 81 from 87 balls having earlier taken a wicket with the ball too. He also claimed 1-33 with the ball last time out. Vijay Shankar was their all-round star, however – he took 2-15 from nine balls, with both wickets coming in the final over, having earlier hit 46.

Rohit Sharma’s ODI prowess is well known, meanwhile, and MS Dhoni continued his good form against Australia when he hit an unbeaten half-century in the first match – his fourth 50 in a row against the Aussies.

With the ball, Kuldeep Yadav has already taken five wickets in the series, while Jasprit Bumrah was back on top form when he claimed 2-29 from his ten overs last time out.

IND Team Form

Victory for India would make it four ODI series wins in a row, since bouncing back from defeat to England during the last English summer. They won the Asia Cup after that Joe Root-inspired defeat and have since beaten West Indies, come from behind to beat Australia away and then won 4-1 in New Zealand.MS Dhoni passed 50 in all three matches of that Australian tour, but his slow scoring proved costly in the first match. Virat Kohli hit a century and Dhoni hit the winning runs as India levelled the series, however, before Yuzvendra Chahal’s 6-42 and another Dhoni masterclass helped India seal a 2-1 series win.

In New Zealand, meanwhile, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan were in the runs early on, while Kuldeep Yadav claimed two, back-to-back, four-wicket hauls as India took control of the series. After sealing victory, they were bowled out for 92 on their way to an eight-wicket defeat in the fourth match but ended on a high as they bowled the hosts out for 217 to win the final game by 35 runs.Against Australia, Kedar Jadhav was their star batsman in the first game, while Virat Kohli’s 40th ODI hundred proved the difference in the second – Australia collapsing to an eight-run defeat as they pursued 251 to win.

Australia Team News & Playing 11

AUS Team News

Shaun Marsh’s slightly earlier than planned return saw him slot in for Ashton Turner last time out, while Nathan Lyon was added to the bowling attack in place of Jason Behrendorff. The extra spin-bowling option could not inspire an Australian win, however.

Andrew Tye has been added to the squad with Kane Richardson and Mitchell Starc absent, while Jhye Richardson has not been used yet either. Australia may make changes, having not yet settled on anything near a regular XI ahead of the World Cup.

AUS Key Players

There were plenty of positives for Australia to take from the second ODI, with the bowling form of Pat Cummins among them – the paceman claiming 4-29 from his nine overs, which including two maidens.

Marcus Stoinis’ half-century showed signs he is still in the same vein of form he showed during the Big Bash League, meanwhile, where he was the tournament’s leading all-rounder and one of the top run-scorers too.

Glenn Maxwell fell short last time out, but he hit 40 in the first ODI having also scored 56 and 113* in the two T20s. He did take a tidy 1-45 with the ball, however.

Australia now need captain Aaron Finch to rediscover his best form – he hit 37 last time out, including five fours and a six, but has not been at his fluid, big-hitting best. Usman Khawaja scored 38 as the two put on 83 for the first wicket, having hit a half-century in the first ODI too.

AUS Team Form

Australia’s miserable run of ODI form looks likely to continue, having already lost at home to South Africa and India on the back of their torrid time against England too. They lost nine of their ten matches to England, including being whitewashed in the English summer as the hosts smashed a world-record 481/6 in one of their five wins.Australia then started with a heavy defeat to South Africa – posting just 152 on their way to a six-wicket defeat in the first game. They looked set for defeat after scoring just 231 in the second game, meanwhile, but Marcus Stoinis claimed 3-35 from his ten overs to help Australia to a seven-run win. In the series decider, Shaun Marsh hit 106 from 102 balls, but the hosts finished on 280/9 – well short of South Africa’s 320/5.

Against India, meanwhile, Australia won the opening game – Jhye Richardson claiming 4-26 from his ten overs as the hosts defended 288/5 to win by 34 runs. Marsh hit another century in the next match, but Australia’s 298/9 proved slightly below par – India winning by six wickets in the final over. Then, in the series decider, they were bowled out for just 230 on their way to another final-over defeat – losing by seven wickets.

That poor form has continued in this series too, scoring 236/7 on their way to a six-wicket defeat in the first match before a batting collapse saw them fold for 242 in reply to India’s 250 all out.

Australia Predicted Playing 11

Aaron Finch, Usman Khawaja, Shaun Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Ashton Turner, Peter Handscomb, Jhye Richardson, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Nathan Lyon, Pat Cummins

India vs Australia Head to Head

Another India win would be their 50th in ODIs against Australia, having won the last four in a row, but they are still well short of Australia’s 74 wins in this fixture.

This series is the second in quick succession between the two teams. In Australia, MS Dhoni hit three half-centuries – the second two proving to be match-winning knocks – as India came from behind to win 2-1.

India are looking to back up their 4-1 win the last time they met on Indian soil, meanwhile – back in September 2017 – when Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma were their batting stars.

India vs Australia Betting Odds

India are 1.44 to beat Australia with Bet365, who are offering 2.75 on an Australian win.

Virat Kohli’s century in the last match – combined with his useful knock first up too – means he is just 3.00 to be the hosts’ top batsman but it is hard to look beyond him.

For Australia, they need the likes of Glenn Maxwell to recapture their best batting form. Maxwell is 6.00 to be their top batsman, having been in excellent form in the T20s that preceded this tournament.

Kuldeep Yadav was India’s top bowler last time out, and he is 3.50 to do so again. Australia certainly struggled to score off spin bowling and Ravindra Jadeja is 5.00 to be India’s top bowler.

🏆 India vs Australia Prediction

India have now won four matches in a row against Australia and can seal another series win after just three games of this five-match series.
