India Team News & Playing 11

IND Team News

Ravindra Jadeja was called up to the Indian squad in place of injured Hardik Pandya who had been ruled out of the entire India vs Australia ODI Series. Jadeja slotted straight into the team for the first ODI as one of two front-line spin options with Kuldeep Yadav. With all-rounder Kedar Jadhav offering another spin option, Yuzvendra Chahal missed out. Vijay Shankar’s place could be in danger after three expensive overs and not batting and, with Siddharth Kaul only in the squad for the first two ODIs, this could be one of the latter’s last chances to force his way into World Cup reckoning.

IND Key Players

Kedar Jadhav was India’s star man last time out, taking a wicket and then top-scoring with an unbeaten 81 from 87 balls to lead the hosts to victory in the first ODI.

Rohit Sharma was their star man last time they played in Nagpur, against Australia, and he will want to reclaim the form he showed early on in the series with New Zealand – when he hit back-to-back half-centuries.

He and Virat Kohli both made useful knocks last time out, with the captain out just short of his 50th ODI half-century – he has also hit 39 centuries, the most recent of which was in Australia in January.

MS Dhoni, who hit a half-century in the last match, also passed 50 on three occasions in that tour of Australia. The first was too sluggish and arguably cost India victory but he made amends by leading India to victory in the final two games.

With the ball, Mohammed Shami took 2-44 from his ten overs last time out, to add to the five he took in Australia and the eight he managed in four matches in New Zealand.

IND Team Form

Since losing in England last summer, India have won the Asia Cup and all three bilateral series they have played since. That includes coming from behind to beat Australia 2-1 in Australia, before a 4-1 victory in New Zealand.

MS Dhoni hit half-centuries in all three games in Australia, making amends for the slow pace of his innings as India lost the first match by going unbeaten to lead them to victory in the next two. Virat Kohli also hit a century as India won the second match, while Yuzvendra Chahal claimed 6-42 as the tourists won the decider.

From there they made the short trip to New Zealand and were in dominant form. Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma showed good batting form as India won the first three matches to confirm a series win, while Kuldeep Yadav claimed back-to-back four-wicket hauls with the ball. Bowled out for 92 on their way to a crushing eight-wicket defeat to New Zealand in the fourth ODI, they bounced back to win the final game – bowling the hosts out for 217 after beingdismissed themselves for 252; Ambati Rayudu’s 90 from 113 balls ultimately making the difference.

Australia Team News & Playing 11

AUS Team News

Australia handed Ashton Turner an ODI debut last time out, but there was no place for D’Arcy Short who is covering for Shaun Marsh at the start of this series. Andrew Tye has been called up to replace injured Kane Richardson, meanwhile, who in turn had been selected ahead of Mitchell Starc. Nathan Coulter-Nile, Pat Cummins and Jason Behrendorff were the pace attack last time out, however, alongside all-rounder Marcus Stoinis.

AUS Key Players

There was little to shout about for Australia last time out, once MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav came together in the middle to lead India to victory. It was a different story in the T20s, however, where Glenn Maxwell confirmed his form with scores of 56 and 113*.  He hit 40 in the first ODI too.

Usman Khawaja top-scored with 50, while captain Aaron Finch needs some runs as he bids to get back to his best form alongside him. Elsewhere in the batting line-up, Marcus Stoinis hit 37 from 53 balls having been one of the stand-out players in this season’s Big Bash League.

Nathan Coulter-Nile was their top bowler last time out. He took 2-46, having also claimed four wickets in the T20i series. Stoinis went wicketless but, as well as his BBL form, he took eight wickets in three matches against South Africa back in November. He took four in the series when these teams last met too.

AUS Team Form

Australia have not won a bilateral ODI series since beating Pakistan in January 2017. So far this season, they have lost both series they have played 2-1 – at home to South Africa and then to India – having previously lost nine out of ten matches across two series, home and away, against England.

After being whitewashed by England away, including England posting a record ODI total in one of their five wins, Australia’s series with South Africa started with a heavy defeat – bowled out for 152 as they lost by six wickets. They were dismissed for 231 next up, but Marcus Stoinis claimed 3-35 from his ten overs as the tourists could only reach 224/9 in Adelaide. They lost theseries decider, however – Shaun Marsh’s 106 from 102 balls not enough as they finished 280/9 in reply to South Africa’s 320/5.

India were next up, and Australia kicked off with a win as Jhye Richardson took 4-26 and Australia, after posting 288/5, claimed a 34-run win. Marsh hit 131 from 123 balls in the next game, in a total of 298/9, but they lost by six wickets in the final over. They then lost the series after folding for 230 in the final game – India again winning in the final over, this time by seven wickets.

Australia Predicted Playing 11

India vs Australia Head to Head

India have won the last three ODIs between the two sides to move to 48 victories in the format against Australia. The Australians still dominate with 74 wins, while there have been ten further matches which failed to produce a result.

Most recently, India came from behind to win 2-1 in Australia – MS Dhoni hitting half-centuries in all three games, while Virat Kohli’s century and Yuzvendra Chahal’s six-wicket haul helped them earn victories in the second and third games respectively.

Last time they met on Indian soil, meanwhile, India won 4-1 in September 2017. Ajinkya Rahane hit half-centuries in four of the five matches, while Rohit Sharma scored 296 runs in the series – including 125 when they last met at Nagpur. Australia’s stand-out performer was Nathan Coulter-Nile, with ten wickets across the series.

India vs Australia Betting Odds

India are comfortable favourites to back up their first ODI win with another in Nagpur. They are 1.40 with Betway and 1.44 to win with Bet365, who are offering 2.75 on Australia.

Kedar Jadhav was the star man last time out, and he is 9.00 to be their top batsman again, but the smart money would be on Rohit Sharma – who hit a century the last time these teams met in Nagpur – or Virat Kohli at 4.00 and 3.00 respectively.

For Australia, Glenn Maxwell was in good form in the T20i series and could be worth backing at 6.00 to be their top batsman.

With the ball, Nathan Coulter-Nile is in good form for Australia and is 4.50 to be their top bowler. For India, Mohammed Shami took that honour last time out and he is 4.50 to do so again this time.

🏆 India vs Australia Prediction

Australia are in an ODI rut, while India are in good form. The hosts can take a firm hold on this series with another win in this second match.
