Hobart Hurricanes Team News & Playing 11

HBH Team News

Hobart Hurricanes were unchanged for the last game but, with Jake Doran available again, he is likely to replace Caleb Jewell. Jewell did not take his opportunity after the selectors kept faith in him last time.

HBH Key Players

Matthew Wade hit 64 from 51 balls at the top of the order last time out to move to four half-centuries in Big Bash League 2018-19 season. The Hurricanes’ wicket-keeper and captain has top-scored for the team in the last two games now and has 387 runs from ten innings.

Only team-mate and opening partner D’Arcy Short has more. The two shared an unbeaten 158-run partnership to beat Adelaide Strikers in their most recent win – Short hitting his fifth half-century – and he now has 473 runs from ten innings.

George Bailey is further down the order, chipping in with some useful contributions. He has two half-centuries to his name in eight innings, and his 22 from nine balls against Sydney Sixers moves him to 264 for the season.

James Faulkner kept up his wicket-taking form, meanwhile – he now has six in his last three games and 15 for the season after claiming 1-22 against the Sixers. Faulkner took 3-25 when these teams last met and was the key man with the bat in the Hurricanes’ most-recent win – hitting two sixes and a four off the first three balls of the final over.

Riley Meredith has 14 wickets so far, meanwhile, and Jofra Archer is on 11 from ten games – the latter having taken 2-23 to get back on track against the Strikers. Both men took two the last time they faced Brisbane Heat.

HBH Team Form

Hobart Hurricanes lost for just the second time in ten games last time out, ending a run of three straight wins since their only other defeat.

D’Arcy Short and Matthew Wade have been in superb form with the bat. Short’s unbeaten 96 from 57 balls and Wade’s 41 helped them to 185/2 in the first of those three straight wins, against Melbourne Stars, before Riley Meredith took 4-21 to help bowl the Stars out for 126.

On a rare off-day for the two, it was left to George Bailey (69 from 39 balls) and James Faulkner, who hit two sixes in the final over, to chase 178 to win against Perth Scorchers next up.

Adelaide Strikers then faced a Wade and Short masterclass, as the two shared an unbroken 158-run opening partnership in 16.5 overs in a ten-wicket win. Wade hit 84 of those and Short finished on 73. Sydney Sixers ended Hobart’s most recent unbeaten run, however, despite more good batting from Wade – who finished on 64 from 51 balls and helped the Hurricanes to 172/4. In reply, however, only Faulkner took a wicket – just four balls in – as the Sixers won by nine wickets with 17 balls to spare.

Brisbane Heat Team News & Playing 11

BRH Team News

Released from the Australian test squad to play, Matt Renshaw top-scored for the Heat last time out but Brisbane may still look to make more tweaks to their batting line-up as they struggle with low scores. Sam Heazlett has been in recent squads and could be an option ahead of Alex Ross, for example.

BRH Key Players

Batting has been a weak point for Brisbane Heat in more recent games but they will be hoping the “Bash Brothers”, Brendan McCullum and Chris Lynn can start firing again. Both men have hit three half-centuries so far, on their way to 232 and 319 runs respectively.

Max Bryant now has 221 runs, meanwhile, and Matt Renshaw was top scorer last time out having been released from the Australian test squad. It makes for a strong top four if they all fire.

Josh Lalor claimed career-best figures of 5-26 against Sydney Sixers and moved to 11 wickets with the one he took against Brisbane last time out. Ben Cutting now has nine, while Mujeeb Ur Rahman claimed 1-18 from four overs to move to nine for the tournament.

BRH Team Form

Brisbane Heat have had a mixed season but more recently they are now three games without a win, having claimed three wins in four before that to bounce back from three consecutive defeats.

The latest bad run started against Sydney Thunder, when they conceded 186/4 and already had Chris Lynn and Brendon McCullum back in the hutch at 10/2 from three overs when a power cut in Brisbane led to a no result. They could not make that fortune pay. Josh Lalor’s 5-26 against Sydney Sixers, who posted 177/7, counted for little as the Heat were bowled out for 98 in reply.

And they failed to score enough last time out either – despite chasing just 135 to beat the Melbourne Stars. Matt Renshaw top-scored with 45 from 43 balls but late wickets turned the game on its head and the Heat finished five runs short.

Brisbane Heat Predicted Playing 11

Brendon McCullum, Max Bryant, Chris Lynn, Matt Renshaw, Ben Cutting, Jimmy Peirson, Mark Steketee, Ben Doggett, Josh Lalor, Mitchell Swepson, Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
