Matthew Wade hit 64 from 51 balls at the top of the order last time out to move to four half-centuries in Big Bash League 2018-19 season. The Hurricanes’ wicket-keeper and captain has top-scored for the team in the last two games now and has 387 runs from ten innings.

Only team-mate and opening partner D’Arcy Short has more. The two shared an unbeaten 158-run partnership to beat Adelaide Strikers in their most recent win – Short hitting his fifth half-century – and he now has 473 runs from ten innings.

George Bailey is further down the order, chipping in with some useful contributions. He has two half-centuries to his name in eight innings, and his 22 from nine balls against Sydney Sixers moves him to 264 for the season.

James Faulkner kept up his wicket-taking form, meanwhile – he now has six in his last three games and 15 for the season after claiming 1-22 against the Sixers. Faulkner took 3-25 when these teams last met and was the key man with the bat in the Hurricanes’ most-recent win – hitting two sixes and a four off the first three balls of the final over.

Riley Meredith has 14 wickets so far, meanwhile, and Jofra Archer is on 11 from ten games – the latter having taken 2-23 to get back on track against the Strikers. Both men took two the last time they faced Brisbane Heat.

Hobart Hurricanes lost for just the second time in ten games last time out, ending a run of three straight wins since their only other defeat.

D’Arcy Short and Matthew Wade have been in superb form with the bat. Short’s unbeaten 96 from 57 balls and Wade’s 41 helped them to 185/2 in the first of those three straight wins, against Melbourne Stars, before Riley Meredith took 4-21 to help bowl the Stars out for 126.

On a rare off-day for the two, it was left to George Bailey (69 from 39 balls) and James Faulkner, who hit two sixes in the final over, to chase 178 to win against Perth Scorchers next up.

Adelaide Strikers then faced a Wade and Short masterclass, as the two shared an unbroken 158-run opening partnership in 16.5 overs in a ten-wicket win. Wade hit 84 of those and Short finished on 73. Sydney Sixers ended Hobart’s most recent unbeaten run, however, despite more good batting from Wade – who finished on 64 from 51 balls and helped the Hurricanes to 172/4. In reply, however, only Faulkner took a wicket – just four balls in – as the Sixers won by nine wickets with 17 balls to spare.
