Hobart Hurricanes Team News & Playing 11

HBH Team News

Hobart Hurricanes were forced to reshuffle their bowling line-up last time out, after Johan Botha’s shock retirement. Teenager Jarrod Freeman was the man to replace him, making his T20 debut aged 18. David Moody also came into the team for Riley Meredith, but the latter could return to face Adelaide Strikers. Caleb Jewell looks to have cemented the number-three spot, having scored an unbeaten 61 in the win against Brisbane Heat.

HBH Key Players

D’Arcy Short’s brilliant batting form continues in BBL 2018/19 – the opener scored an unbeaten 68 from 41 balls last time out to post his sixth half-century in 11 matches. It also took him past 500 runs for the tournament, for the second consecutive season, and he now has 541 in total this time out.

Opening partner Matthew Wade is next in the run-scoring list, on 399 from his 11 innings, having hit four half-centuries. One of Wade’s half-centuries was in the win against Adelaide Strikers – he scored 84 not out from 49 balls in an unbeaten 158-run opening partnership with Short.

While not required in either of their two most recent wins, George Bailey has chipped in down the order with two half-centuries and 264 runs so far, meanwhile. And Caleb Jewell proved his worth last time out with an unbeaten 61.With the ball, two more wickets for James Faulkner takes him to eight in his last four matches and 18 for the season. That includes 2-24 when they last faced Adelaide Strikers. Only Kane Richardson has taken more in this season’s tournament. Faulkner’s batting has also come to the fore – he scored two sixes and a four off the first three balls of the final over when Hobart beat Perth Scorchers.

Riley Meredith dropped out last time out but he has 14 wickets to his name so far and Jofra Archer now has 13 after his 2-28 in the last game.

HBH Team Form

Hobart have won four of their last five games, bouncing back from only their second defeat of this year’s tournament by beating Brisbane Heat last time out. D’Arcy Short (68*) and Caleb Jewell (61*) shared an unbeaten 132-run partnership in a nine-wicket win against the Heat, as the Hurricanes reached 146 to win in just 14.2 overs.Their previous win had been just as dominant too – Short (73*) and Matthew Wade (84*) scoring 158 between them in 16.5 overs in a ten-wicket Hurricanes win when they last faced Adelaide Strikers.

In between, however, Wade’s 64 in a total of 172/4 was not enough to prevent a rare Hurricanes defeat – the Sydney Sixers winning by nine wickets in 17.1 overs.

Adelaide Strikers Team News & Playing 11

ADS Team News

Peter Siddle was released to play for Adelaide Strikers in their most recent match, but the pacemen is back in the Australian test team for the second test against Sri Lanka – even if Justin Langer has hinted at an unchanged Australia team (without Siddle) for that game. Travis Head is also with the national team. Liam O’Connor was the man to drop out for Siddle last time out, and he and Cameron Valente will join Wes Agar in vying for a return to the starting XI.

ADS Key Players

Jake Weatherald, the hero of last year’s final against Hobart Hurricanes, desperately needs some runs to get back to top form. The Strikers’ opener has hit four single-digit scores in a row and was involved in Alex Carey’s run-out last time out. Nevertheless, on his day, he remains a key play and has 236 runs so far in this year’s tournament.

The top run scorer is captain Colin Ingram, who has 301 from his 11 innings, including three half-centuries – one of which came in the defeat to Hobart last time they played each other. Alex Carey scored 28 in that game and, after returning from Australian ODI duty, will want more big runs at the top of the order too.

Their top scorer in the last two matches has been Jake Lehmann, however – after three weeks out of the team, the 26-year-old has returned with 40 and 46 in his last two innings.

Afghani leg-spinner Rashid Khan is their top wicket-taker, meanwhile. He has 14 for the season and still has an economy rate of a run a ball, even if he has been more expensive lately. Billy Stanlake has chipped in with ten wickets, while Michael Neser now has nine.

ADS Team Form

Adelaide Strikers have lost their last four matches in a row – they last won on January 11, when Colin Ingram scored a half-century in a total of 178/5 against Melbourne Stars. In reply, Ben Laughlin claimed 3-19 with the ball and the Strikers won by 41 runs.

The bad form started next up, however, when – replying to 168/6 – the Strikers were all out for 97 in 17.4 overs.Hobart Hurricanes were their next opponents, and the Strikers’ total of 154/5 – with Colin Ingram unbeaten on 67 – proved well below par. The Hurricanes did not lose a wicket as they chased it down in 16.5 overs.

Wickets eluded the Strikers again next up – Melbourne Stars managing 167/2 in their 20 overs, before Adelaide were all out for 123 in the final over. And, last time out, they posted just 124/8 from their 20 overs, again claiming just two wickets in the reply as Sydney Sixers reached 130/2 to win by eight wickets with a six off the first ball of the 15th over.

Hobart Hurricanes vs Adelaide Strikers Head to Head

Hobart Hurricanes gained some revenge on the Adelaide Strikers last time out, having lost to them in the final last season. They have won five times in 11 previous meetings, compared to the Strikers’ six wins.

Last year’s final saw Jake Weatherald emerge as the Strikers’ hero. He scored 115 in a total of 202/2 and, though D’Arcy Short hit 68 and George Bailey 46 in reply, the Hurricanes could only reach 177/5 in reply.

Last time they met, however, Colin Ingram top-scored for the Strikers with an unbeaten 67 from 36 balls, in a total of 154/5. In reply, the Hurricanes’ openers were in supreme form. Matthew Wade scored an unbeaten 84 and D’Arcy Short scored 73 not out in a ten-wicket win with 3.1 overs to spare.

Hobart Hurricanes vs Adelaide Strikers Betting Odds

Hobart Hurricanes are unsurprisingly big favourites to win this game – the Hurricanes are a best price of 1.62 to win with Betfair and 1.61 with Bet365, whereas Adelaide Strikers are 2.30 to win with Bet365.

That is largely thanks to their in-form openers, and the Hurricanes are 1.72 with Bet365 to post the highest opening partnership. Adelaide have Jake Weatherald and Alex Carey as their answer to D’Arcy Short and Matthew Wade, but the former two have struggled with run outs and Weatherald is out of form. For the Hurricanes, D’Arcy Short is 2.88 to be their top batsman, while Wade is 4.00 with Bet365. Short is the leading run scorer in the tournament, but Wade top-scored when these two teams last met.

With the ball, meanwhile, Adelaide have struggled for wickets of late but Hobart have had no such issues. James Faulkner is one of the top wicket-takers in the tournament and he is 4.00 with Betfair to be the Hurricanes’ top bowler again.

🏆 Hobart Hurricanes vs Adelaide Strikers Prediction

Not only have Hobart Hurricanes been in outstanding form this season, Adelaide have lost four in a row and it is hard to see the league leaders being toppled.
