After starting the series as underdogs, Guernsey put in a spirited display but were ultimately beaten by a stronger side in Friday’s opener. After being put in to bat first, Jersey posted a very competitive total of 178-4 thanks to an opening partnership of fifty from 5.1 overs between Harrison Carlyon and Nick Greenwood. Middle-order batter Julius Sumerauer top scored with an impressive 54 not-out from 32 balls with Greenwood contributing a valuable 48 from 27. With the ball, Carlyon dismissed all of Guernsey’s top three and finished with figures of 3-14 from 4 overs. He was well backed up by his captain Charles Perchard who took 2-26 with his medium pace bowling.
