Gloucestershire vs Durham - Hosts to Grab a Semi Berth
Gloucestershire are set to take on Durham in the third quarter-final of the Natwest T20 Blast 2016. The match will be played on August 10 at Gloucestershire's home ground - County Ground, Bristol. Live action will begin at 6:30 PM local time. While the hosts topped the South Group standings with 21 points to show for their efforts from 14 matches, Durham finished fourth in the North Group standings with 14 points from as many matches.

Venue and Toss
Scores of 151, 156, 158 and 168 have all been chased down this year at Bristol. This leads us to believe that a team, in order to feel comfortable, will have to get at least 170-180 in the first innings on such a wicket. The ground has been favorable for chasing as four of the six group games played here were won by the team batting second. This should make the toss an important aspect of the match and whoever wins it will probably want to bat second.
Durham will need to win the toss and restrict Gloucestershire under 160 if they are to give themselves any chance of a win. But Durham's chances will recede substantially if Gloucestershire win the toss.

If Gloucestershire Bat First
Predicted Score: Around 165
Top order has done really well with the bat so far and the team will be hoping for its top four to come good in Wednesday's crucial match. Klinger and Cockbain have been the two most consistent batsmen for the side and either of them could go on to top-score against Durham. Gloucestershire will want these two to play the big innings apart from contributions from Marshall and Mustard.
Their batsmen will be facing Paul Coughlin and Chris Rushworth, the two seamers that Durham are going to rely upon heavily for taking wickets. Coughlin is their leading wicket-taker with 17 wickets and he is more likely to strike early. Gloucestershire will also be wary of Scott Borthwick, the leg-spinner who took three wickets in the last match against Derbyshire. If these three bowlers bowl well for Durham, they could be chasing a total much less than 165.

If Durham Bat First
Predicted Score: Around 150
Mark Stoneman and Calum MacLeod scored 82 and 83 runs respectively to steer their team to victory in the last match against Derbyshire. The two have played good knocks on a consistent basis at the top and they will be expected to continue from where they left off. With Collingwood lacking match-practice, Durham will want Keaton Jennings to provide good support in order to get to 150 or more.
Gloucestershire are going to rely mainly on their faster bowlers to do the job for them. Benny Howell and Andrew Tye will be the key to their hopes in getting some wickets early on. Howell, with 23 wickets so far, has bagged the most wickets in the tournament and facing him will be the biggest challenge for the Durham batsmen. If these two pacers are able to remove Stoneman and MacLeod at the start of the innings, Durham will struggle big time to touch the 150-mark.
Our Prediction
Neither of the two teams have reached the quarter-finals before and they will be facing each other for the first time. Both are coming into this crunch game on the back of a win in their previous league fixtures. Gloucestershire have been a more consistent side this year, winning 10 of their 13 completed group games. The home advantage is surely going to be with them and so will be the momentum as they have wins in their last three matches. However, their record at Bristol isn't the greatest with eight wins and seven defeats from fifteen games, a stat which will make Durham believe they have every chance of overcoming the hosts on Wednesday.
Durham have been very good with the bat and if their bowlers can put up a good show, Gloucestershire could well be in for a surprise. But we feel that the more consistent Gloucestershire should be the favorites to win this quarter-final and make it to the semis.
